side mirror fix?

hello all,
i'm looking for a fix for a loose side view mirror witha stripped female nut thingy that connects the actual mirror to the post. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, chris

Chris- I posted a while back about replacing the mirror motor with one from the same vintage 4-runner, which is probably easier to find in a pick n' pull. The tabs broke off of mine. I just recently discovered that a mirror from a Toyota van has the same motor, and is also easily replaceable. All that said (or written) mine broke again, after being replaced, and started wobbling even worse than before, so I epoxied it in, and it's now great. My suggestion is to do the same. Ned

i'm sorry, it's an '85 fj60, so no motor, i should have specified, the mirror mounts to the post with a ball socket type setup, that ball/socket is held together with a bolt threaded into a threaded sleeve(nut?) with a spring in between holding tension and the mirror in place. the threaded sleeve is stripped out so there is nothing holding the mirror to the post. thanks, chris

tough to fix that...

that happened to mine a while back (tightened just a tad too much)...I couldn't repair it, so I got a used replacement.
