Should this LC-100 be totaled?

I've had USAA now for 22 years (ex Coast Guard). They are great. Although I do wonder if service and quality will deteriorate now that it is open to the general public. I was always in favor of opening it to more than just officers and family, but the public at large makes me afraid.

Since when are they open to the general public?? There are still eligibility requirements listed on their website...

Edit: Checking/savings accounts are open to the public now. Insurance products and most other bank products are not.

Also, not trying to sound snobbish or elitist at all...it's just nice having products specifically tailored to and discounted for service men/women.

It's ok to sound snobbish if you were willing to die for your country, you've earned it! And to keep this tech worthy, Did that Land Cruiser get totaled?

I hope they don't. No offense to the "general public", I just don't want my bank to turn into the next B of A by getting too big and thinking they cannot fail regardless of what they do to their customers.

Agreed! I pay a little more for USAA but it's a premium well worth paying for. We tend to not be concerned with our insurance company until we really need them. I didn't know about the aftermarket coverage until I called USAA to insure the LC. That's a nice extra, although it doesn't take long to exceed $5k in aftermarket parts/upgrades.

I had USAA for about 18 years. Back when I became a USAA member the requirement was one had to be a military officer (active duty or retired). Their rates, customer service and claims service were absolutely fantastic.

They had 100% of my insurance business and I never even thought about changing carriers, or bothering with getting a quote from someone else.

But over the years they changed the membership requirements to allow more people to become members. The rates went up, both the customer service and claims service went downhill hugely.

Two claims come to mind and USAA's service was very poor. Without going into detail, on one claim I literally had to talk to someone in the Chairman's office to get results. Needless to say it wasn't easy to get that far up the chain.

I now have Amica for my homeowners and (some) auto insurance. I haven't had any claims with them, but their customer service reminds me of the "old" USAA.

Total it. No way they can swap the frame AND repair the body for $12k. More like $20k. Take the cash and buy another, in my opinion.

Being in the car business for years I would total it but keep your extras (ARB......). You will always have bondo to deal with bad reprint miss match over the years to come and that question every time something happens " Is this from the wreck?". Peace of mind is worth a lot at times.

Not going to total it. My Toyota dealer/bodyshop has upped the estimate to $14k. Should get confirmation this week that it's going forward. The body work btw is minor. New lower tailgate and bumper cover, plus some minor straightening of the rear quarter panels.
