Should there be a trim or weatherstripping piece here? This is the DS piller. I'm specifically referring to the channel between the rivets and the painted trim. It's rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise :whoops:
(Wow, sorry about the horrible pic)
channel.webp

Yes, wind noise. Not like there is wind coming in, more like I'm driving into a 40mph headwind all the time. Regardless, it got me looking around. So, there is definately something that goes there, right?

You won't believe how much that piece costs. I remember something like 85 bucks.

Yep, definitely missing the rubber trim piece that runs along the channel. $85 each is cheap! Where??

I called Beno

I called Beno
I saw the price and barfed. ETA not a shot at Beno or anyone else here there or anywhere...just seemed a little much for a couple strips of molding...

Used 1/8" closed cell neoprene gasket material with adhesive backing, cut 2 strips, peeled and stuck. Looks good, stays put, no leaks, etc.

You can beat the 17 by about 5 a piece on line, but shipping may eat any savings. I am guessign that the entire molding pacakage is steep, but the Moulding number 2 pieces are pretty reasonable in cost (there is not much to them.)

I always find these discussions interesting in that one buys the flagship Toyota vehicle of its time....

...and balks at a $20 piece.

And $17 is very reasonable for a Japan-manufactured part, with design consistency in the part.

We are of course seeing effects of the tsunami and supplier price increases from Japan, as well as the significant increase in the value of the yen (making parts expensive too) compared to the dollar.

That said, I've always advocated to customers to realize these aren't Corollas or domestic makes.

These are luxury SUVs. And while the trucks might be getting up in age, new OEM parts reflect flagship vehicle and new parts prices.

Good lucks gents.

Beno, no argument here.

Just trying to save every little dime for a front bumper & some lights.;)

I tend to use Toyota or Lexus if there's no crossover for everything else.

FWIW, I'm not balking at $20/piece (or $17 in my case). I think that's a great price - especially if it quiets my ride a bit. I would of done it at 85/per.
