So the paint on my 80 is starting to show its age after 20 years. It has pinstriping headlight to taillight and e black paint just highlights the flaws. I picked a a nice dent on the passenger side rear door this weekend from a hidden tree branch so now I'm thinking it's time for a repaint.

If you are planning to continue using it off-road I'd leave it alone but if you want to get it ready for the 80 Concourse you should paint it.

If you paint it, definitely repaint it black. You'll never get all the black repainted another color, and the repaint will be obvious.

That being said, you are an enthusiast who actually uses their land cruiser off-road. If you repaint it, chances are you will quit doing that. Since you enjoy off-pavement travel, you might consider continuing to use that one as your off-road toy and maybe get an additional land cruiser if you want one that just has a better appearance.

Just a thought....

EDIT: Rob beat me to it

My second thoughts were to repaint black and then have it vinyl wrapped to protect the base paint.

While I use it off-road, I still drive it a good bit to and from work and around town so I'd like to it to look presentable. Just indecisive on what to do.

I also agree with cam and jt , Your original paint lasted a lot of years. Repaint it and start fresh. It will last along time. I'm at the same point with my 60 that you are. You have a very nice 80.

What would y'all consider a reasonable price for a sale color repaint job? The local body shop(only one in town so no competition) quoted me 3500-4000 for a simple repaint. That seems high to me

I you are going with a repaint, you get what you pay for. I can spot bad paint across the parking lot. You may be fine with orange peel, fish eyes and trash but if you want it to last as long as the OEM paint job has lasted you will have to pay for that level of work. Black is the worst color to paint as it shows all and will have to be extremely straight before any paint is sprayed. Proper prep work is extremely time consuming if you want it done right, i.e. Pulling all glass and trim, flares, antenna etc. then tapeing off what you don't want sprayed. That said $3500-$4000 is reasonable if it's done correctly using quality materials.

Hey bud, don't know ya but gotta ask.... money you will invest in paint job but then when you wheel it or take it on another trip you will incur same pinstriping or dents again.... then you will have wasted money.
Save $$ and spend it on fuel armor or whatever. A truck you take on trips or wheel you understand that scratches or dents might occur.
If you want a nice looking SUV then buy a DD and keep cruiser for fun.

You may be able to do some prep work yourself such as removing emblems, bumpers and sliders, and such and save some money, I doubt you are looking for a show quality job. I would think 2k or so would get you a decent job if you did some of the work

No!!!!!!!!

Just wrap it with a badass Precision Delta logo wrap, then years down the road, decide if you still have same interests/use for the truck. The cost of painting that truck (correctly) will be money wasted. Plus, don't pretend like you aren't going to work the s*** out of it, whether its shiny or scratched!?!?

I want a Precision Delta decal, I order their bullets by the thousands, never got one :frown:
