the rear camper of my build is aluminum and i would rather not paint it, but i will paint it if necessary. my concern is protecting the aluminum from the elements, somewhere i heard that aluminum has protection quality all by itself. what do you think? here is picture of my build.

Aluminum will oxidize but unlike iron oxide, aluminum oxide is a protective barrier that significantly slows down further oxidation.

is it better to paint it or not paint aluminum? thx

I suppose one could argue that it is "better" to paint it as that prevents any oxidation. But it isn't essential as the oxidation process is so slow.

I'd say it depends on looks more than anything. If you want to keep the aluminum shiny, you'll have to polish it every now and then. If you don't mind the dull look of the oxidation, go that route. Or you could polish it all up and then have it clear coated!

I would paint it. What about a clear coat if you wanted to keep it looking like aluminum?
