Shotts' trip to Poughkeepsie Gulch on July 3-5(ish)-(in the 100-series)

We'll be (85% chance at this point) in Ouray/Silverton over the week of July 4th. We'll be running the typical stuff (less Black Bear...will never do that again...especially in the rain and in the big 100....might do it in a quad ) though we would like to link up with some Cruiser folks to run the Gulch. Many of you may know that BFG Tires just added to their list Poughkeepsie as one of the country's best and most scenic trails.

Poughkeepsie is fabulous...I think it's the best trail in the area and wouldn't go to the San Juans without running it...so much better than the classic ledge road switchback trails. Don't run it alone if it's wet, though. The only real obstacle can be just about impassable if really wet.

BTW, you need to check on snow conditions for an early July run. The San Juan trails are at such high elevation many are not open until August...except the shelf road trails that get plowed for scenic reasons. This is why you'll see most San Juan outings planned for late August to early Sept. Nothing like hitting unexpected snow on a high ledge road, and I have more experience (with a pregnant wife wheeling solo no less ) in that area than I'd like.

I will be in Breck drinking beer and watching fireworks that weekend, so enjoy it if you go

Is is fabulous isn't it? We've been up there the seme week in 2000, 2002, and 2004. We luv it. We've laways been lucky...snow wise, though 02 was really dry.

We also luv The Wall. We took the right side in the 100 back in 2004. Luv the north-ends play lines too!

And yes...WET...another reason we'd like to go with buddies. Hope this works out.

I plan to be out that way in late July to early August. One of my very favorite trails in the crown jewel of the Rockies.

I wish I could afford to go. We've run most of the trails in that area between Ouray and T-ride on two seperate occasions. They were big organised runs that were put together by peeps in T-ride. Gosh, that was like ten years ago.

You need to try the center line. Its doable too. Well you may want to remove your rear bumper before giving it a go.

That's the rock that ate the Wrangler's PS rear window. None of our 80's could make the middle line. They all feared the same type of damage. We all took the right line next to your truck.

Ohhh, you mean you've climbed up right there? I got that in my Lexus....frame cut, etc. Not my 100 though. No way.
