I am going to officially be the "Poser" of the 100 section if Poser does not take offense.

Where is the tech???????

I have never seen more comparisons being prompted on any of the other sections. I have never seen a fj40 v. land rover series 1 or nissan patrol comparison on the 40 section.

Damn I love you fellows but this sh-t drives me crazy. Let's talk about how we can increase the prowess of our rigs not degrade them i.e. try to invalidate why we purchased them in the first place.

Yes, please. Pictures? I'm trying to picture a 30-inch tired truck with 8-inches travel, having the same wheelbase, and be able to kick the butt of a modified 100 (or 80 like one said). Pictures please? I can see the above details in a 80-inch wheelbase and lighter body. Pictures anybody? :)

John,

I dont think the G would beat out an 80 or 100 stock. Pretty fair match up on most accounts and the best offerings from two great manufacturers.

I just like the G because it is different.

For those who want pictures of them off-road:

This guy Harold is a real believer... http://www.4x4abc.com/G-Class/?50,41

General Disclaimer: This is just a fun discussion. I am not bashing cruisers or promoting g-wagons... ;)

I think the questions get posted here because this is the only section of the mud board where you can still buy the vehicle new. These are comparisons of one new vehicle vs. another new vehicle.

There used to be a lot of threads in the 80's section or on the 80's list about 80's vs. Discos, but they have faded away as of late.

Just a guess.

Ryan:

Good insight. My 100 is almost 8 years old. I guess that is why it bothers me.

I am still going to be the Poser though ( :

This thread is completely hypothetical without pictures:) Does anyone even have a picture of a friggin Mercedes that is rock crawling, off roading, etc.?

<They had all kinds of problems with their Chenowth dune buggies.>

Like what? No AC, no doors, no stereo, crappy ride and air cooled vw motor? Well yes, if the MC gives you a blank check book, then buy something better than a sand rail!

Never took pics of the Gs when I saw them in person (heck, I don't even take pics of Land Cruisers most of the time!). The only actual pics I have are out of the Mercedes Benz Club of America Star magazine. This is from the annual MBCA Pike's Peak run. Lots of crappy M-classes, but also some serious G-wagons and even a few UNIMOGs. If I ever get my scanner hooked up, I'll try to scan them.

On the Chenowths, they experienced crappy reliability and crappy off-road performance (too low to the ground). The buggies were also way to harsh to ride in at speed (noise, roughness, etc.), which the Marines felt diminished the fighting efficiency of the soldier. But mainly, they ditched them because they broke down all the time, sometimes in the worst places...
