Ill put this in the 80 section too.. but feel some of the smartest guys are in CSC!! Plus you guys are local.. anyway Today I was removing some wiring from my 80 that was for an aftermarket temp gauge installed by the PO over 8 years ago. Long story short, I ended up pulling on a wire that I thought was part of the temp gauge.. (it was the same color) and it pulled out from some where, not sure where under the driver side kick panel. The wire had an exposed end and touched something metal and it shorted out the radio (where) it's spliced into. But now I have the ABS & CDL light on and engaged. I engaged and disengaged my CDL switch.. but with no luck.

So my 80 (97) has the CDL switch, but PO didn't pull the 7 pin from the Trans Control Relay. Found that out today.. however even without the 7 pin removed I was able to engage the CDL in both Hi & Low gear.. anyway .. I'm stumped and need some help from someone smarter than I!
Sorry so long winded.. appreciate any feedback.

I got nothing other than have you disconnected and reconnected the battery? It sounds like it was an aftermarket wire if it was spliced into the radio. Backup camera or aftermarket alarm?

Edit: Tried disconnecting the battery. Still got the ABS light and CDL light on.

I'll try that.. Only thing aftermarket was the temp gauge lights.. but those are all good. I'll try the battery. Thanks

The 7 pin modification is not necessary with a CDL all it does is not engage the diff lock automatically when shifting into 4 low.
What color wire did you pull out by mistake, if the temp gauge was aftermarket, do the removed wires also look like aftermarket gear?

Can you post a pic of the wire that was shorted?
I'll try this afternoon when I get home from work. Its just a spliced wire from the cig lighter to (not sure) running through the dash to what looked like was going to the kick panel side.
  • There was another spliced wire (same color and gauge) that was spliced at the power side of the rear heater switch.. which that was connected to the temp gauge.
I know its been years since I picked up the rig from a former MUD member.. I tried to PM him to see if I could jar his memory.. but his mailbox is full.. grrr.

Also, If I wanted to.. I could disconnect the front Drive Shaft and still drive it? If I need to get it somewhere???

You could disconnect it and go only rear wheel drive are you sure the Center Diff is actually engaging or is just the light coming on?

Yeah it's engaged. I drove it down the street and back to see if it would turn off, put it in low and back in hi to see if would turn off and disengage. I can feel it when turning and pulling into the driveway..

The contractor that tells the ecu the truck is in 4 low may be stuck closed and the truck may think it's in 4low, perform the 7pin mod and unlock with CDL switch?
I don't have an ewd to look at to see how this contractor is wired in.

@ScottyDog , is this fixed?
Yeah.. I shorted a wire which just blew a fuse.. however coincidentally the V/C froze up and caused the CDL light to come on and cause the actuator to stick locked. Got Kevin the mastermind @Tools R Us to get it all worked out. Glad we have a LandCruiser guru locally!

Glad to know it is fixed. Which fuse was blown? What was the fix?
Blew the cig lighter fuse.. Kevin and John dropped the backend of the T/case did the V/C delete, pulled the actuator switch, lubed the bearing, cleaned it up and put it back together. That’s the simplest way, I can explain it.. but those guys put in some 12+ hours into it.. big thanks to @Tools R Us @inkpot for the Great work!
