It doesnt exist. A club member called me about it a couple weeks ago and I walked across the street and combed the ENTIRE facility. Not there. It is an old ad and they never pulled it. Probably generates alot of calls though.

My buddy called on that one also and they said it was sold. They changed the subject and tried to sell him something different right away.
Actually, as crazy as this may sound, I looked at the LC at Camelback Ford. They had originally sent it out to auction (hence it not being there) because they can't get it to pass emissions, however, it didn't sell in the auction and now it's back.
I plan to look/drive it today.
Any thoughts?

When I looked on Saturday...
Cloth interior, decent shape.
Very clean engine, as they power-wash it I assume.
Started up fine. Sounded good.
Decent tread on tires.
A/C is cold, all levels working.
Sun roof is fully functional.
-All power everything works, locks, windows, lights, etc.
172k miles.
Now (as of today) they are saying they can get it to pass emissions, essentially saying that if I purchase it they will make sure it passes. Mechanics currently working on getting it to pass, one would guess.

I was the one who called Murf about this one at Camelback Ford. When I called them the salesman said he would check it out and get back to me. Never did hear back from CF and Murf had already checked on it for me. If it were me and I had actually seen it and it wasnt in bad shape I might consider it. Though I would be wary of their shady business practices. Fishing with nonexistant cars in my mind is pretty shady. I would make sure that they fixed the emissions problems on their dollar though and make them show me what they had done and prove that it had been done. You will be giving them alot more than they paid for it if you buy it. The least they can do is fix it for you correctly. Unfortunately alot of stealerships dont see things that way

IIRC, dealers have to make rigs pass in order to sell them to the public?
If it were me, would want to know what codes, what they are fixing. On the OBD2 rigs the most common is P0401 and P0402 EGR problems. They can be a fight to "correctly repair" or relatively simple to defeat using options not available to dealers.

I'll definitely ask, but I doubt I'll get a "straight" answer. What exactly do you mean by options not available to the dealer?
I believe I also have 30 days after the sale to take it back/to their shop if anything goes wrong, yes?

I would talk to Murf and get his insight on this one, since he has already looked at it. I tried to contact them about it but they did not even respond. The Used Car Dealers in S. California did better than that for cars I found there on Auto Traders. Some of them offered to send me extra pix. I wold bet they were hoping to sell it at the Auto Auction for sever thousand less than it is listed for. I would give them a real lowball offer if you want it. They are looking at it like deadwood.
Unfortunately, Camelback Toyota was also running a phantom ad last week. I called and the salesman had to go look for it, but came back empty. The ad ran for days after that. Maybe they just for got to cancel. John

Most likely correct.
Several have removed the whole EGR system, or cheated the temp sensor so the code doesn't come on.
Update: Test drove it, everything in working order... feels solid.
They said they want 1k (earnest money) down before they put the time/work into getting it to pass emissions. Once I put this money down they will then take it through emissions, passing or I will get my money back and the deal is off.
Total price: $5,800.00 out the door, 1k of that before testing.

Yes and the laws are very tight on that. A dealership can lose their emissions license if they they dont follow the state emissions laws to the "t" when they sell a vehicle. I dont think any dealer (smart ones) would risk doing anything other than fix it properly because if they lose their emissions license, they cannot sell used cars without jumping through many loopholes and fines.
The auction is not designed to fix cars. If the check engine light is on, they cannot sell the car. No one will lift the hood at the auction house to fix it so it goes back to the dealer for them to deal with it.
I would ask, I dont know why they wouldnt tell you...
Just back from Camelback Ford, went to put the aforementioned 1k down to get the emission passing... I arrived, sat down, salesman goes to get contracts, quickly comes back and tells me it just sold for $6,700.00 to some girl, she paid via credit card.
Very strange, considering the asking price was $5,900.00

Sorry the deal fell through and I’m sure you are getting a little tired of looking but I highly suggest you pass on the 91/92 cruiser. I would let you drive my 91 at Fridays meet but I’m flying out to Taiwan Friday AM. The 91/92 trucks are good and solid but that 3F motor is going to kill you. In town and for runs around Phoenix she does fine but if you need to climb the hill for Flag, Payson, or anything north of Table Mesa you will be in a world of hurt. You will be in second gear all the way up to Flag and getting passed by the big rigs. When we did the last run of Payette Draw I was passed by a Tacoma pulling a 40 on a trailer. I suggest you take your time and hold out for a 93 or better, you will get a better motor, floating axels, and if you are really lucky you will get lockers. If you do go for a 91/92 then make sure the price is very good, I’ve seen 93+ trucks at $4k. My big advice is to stop looking once you get a truck. As soon as you take one home you will find a better deal the next day. I will be back from Taiwan in mid May, if you still don’t have an 80 by then I’ll let you drive my 91 so you know what to expect.
