Did some dumb stuff, fiddled around with an aftermarket shift plate and messing with wires with the negative terminal still attached to battery.

Original Problem: 02 LX470 wouldn't shift out of Park unless Shift-Lock was depressed.

2nd Problem: Couldn't get my key out of the ignition unless I pulled the negative terminal off the battery.

Current Problem:

Replaced:
1) key interlock solenoid,
2) shift interlock solenoid,
3) shift lock ECU/controller.

Now I can shift out of Park without issues. Still can't get the key out of ignition unless I pop the negative terminal off OR disconnect the key interlock solenoid.

- LX shifts out of Park with NO key in the ignition. There's nothing that is preventing shifting freely right now.
- LX starts as normal with key interlock solenoid disconnected or connected. Can drive around, reverse, whatever. However, to remove the key when I get back home, I need to disconnect the key interlock solenoid (or negative terminal off battery).
- Tail light fuses are fine with visual inspection.
- Shift Knob slightly loosened based on advice on a Facebook group but didn't fix anything.
- The only used part was the key interlock solenoid.
- The only thing with the new shift lock ECU I bought, was that I needed to do was depin the connectors for the overdrive and green light for the shift plate area and repin them into the new ECU connector.

If anyone has any thoughts, that would HELP a ton!

Is this aftermarket shift plate a necessary thing? Can you revert to factory parts and verify everything works?

I can't tell if you installed an aftermarket part and then ran into trouble or if you had a problem and then added the aftermarket part because you thought the problem was too easy so you wanted an extra challenge. :)

I have not read about key and shift interlock problems on here before so this doesn't sound like a common thing on the 100.

It's one of those aftermarket shift plate covers that ppl replace when theirs bubble up, common swap for those who want to keep their interior looking sharp. Just aesthetics. The problem started happening during the swap out process, because you have to disconnect/depin/snip a few wires to remove the shift knob, so you can install the shift plate cover. There's some threads about key interlock / shift interlock solenoid problems on this forum, but it's infrequent, and no one apparently likes to answer those questions on the forums.

So, you've hacked up the wiring harness and now it doesn't work? You don't have photos of before and after, by any chance? How about an EWD?

Given the situation you've described, I wouldn't go any farther than repairing any damage done to the harness, before I went looking for solutions elsewhere.

Changed your title so people will know what the thread is about and it may be that you're not getting responses because people haven't experienced the same issue, not because people are choosing not to respond.

It wasn't clear if prior to swapping out the shift plate that the shift lock and key issue existed? As mentioned, it sounds like you got into the wiring and possibly caused the issue there. Any time I have an issue like that I try to revert to how things were before and see what that solves.

I'm surprised more people haven't changed out their worn-out bubbling shift trim plate with the 3D printed one: 100 Series Shifter Trim Plate - https://cruiserdm.com/products/100-series-shifter-trim-plate

I think a lot of ppl have here, since it's a common aesthetic upgrade.

I think anyone knows who have removed the shift knob is you have to contend with two blue wires that are related to the overdrive button on the shift knob, in order to remove your shift knob. To install the trim plate, the only way to do it is to remove your shift knob. That is what I was fiddling with.

So it's not a situation where you "put things back to normal" unfortunately.

The issue only came up with it came time to install my shift trim plate. See response previous to this one above. Thanks for changing my title, but no one was responding to my original title on a previous post. The "Getting Crickets" title actually got more ppl to respond, TBH. LOL.
