With the Speedo being off, I'm not exactly sure, but something on the order of 14-16mpg as loaded for the trip to CO. I don't think my dad's been checking it around town

Mate, That truck is awseome! I work for Cummins in Australia and Ive seen B series in F Trucks but not landcruisers. That would have to be the best feeling driving down the road with that much diesel power! Gotta love that turbo spool!! Well done man thats enough inspiration for me to seriously think about doing similar.

thanks for the comments ya'll!

Now the next question is how to get the dumb thing to quit wallowing around after a bump on the hwy...

Suggestions?

I hadn't thought about this thread in quite awhile!

Added some Rancho shocks (don't recall the model) to the front, that helped immensely with its wallowing. A set is coming for the rear, just haven't got there yet.
Cruise added as well
Running like a top and still a hoot to drive. Makes me laugh when someone claims its "too tall"
Now to replace the fuel filter since it clogged on the last trip...

Been digging old threads up much?

She made it to the road, was a DD for a couple years, then mom got tired of the bump-steer issue (still need to cut and turn the front axle), the manual transmission, the climb into it, and the noise. She's driving a Town Car now, so all those problems are solved.

The FJ is currently sitting. I think I've heard rumors of a wheelin' trip sometime early next year, so we'll likely get it up to snuff before then.

Thanks. I was doing a search on 6bt's for 60's. Looking into the idea for my 60. I already have the SOA with cut and turn so thats taken care of. After spending all the money it would take to do the swap on the engine and nv4500 i didnt want to have to change the suspension much and the transfer case until much father down the road. Onces the swap goes in, then it will be more of a DD for a while before and wheeling takes place where i would need to be concerned about the 60 axles. Thats why i asked, just to make sure some of the stock gear is holding up.

Looks like you're already set.

We've had no trouble with any of the drive train.

The one thing I would recommend would be finding a 6spd transmission for it. The Dodge 5spd is okay, but it really needs to be closer ratio. 40mph in 4th is too tall, but 3rd is too low.
I know the 6spds are much harder to find and much more expensive, just an opinion.

The NV5600 is not supported and is such a heavy thing (~350 pounds) that the cases distort under their own weight leading to failure. Avoid it. The NV4500 is a better choice if you want a manual.

Haven't heard of any issues with the 6spds (but I didn't/don't work on transmissions)

There's adapters to put virtually any transmission behind the 6BT, surely there's a good, sturdy, 6spd, or closer ratio 5spd out there.

Wonder how the 6spds from the Chevy and Ford diesels are holding up. And if they could be adapted to the Toy t-case

Is Chevy currently using a six-speed? Ford is using ZF stuff. The newest Dodge six-speed is different, I don't know who makes it, but it has an aluminum housing and the word is that it's holding up better than the NV5600. My first choice would be an Allison automatic. Can you bolt that to a B series?

from looking at Chevy's build-your-own-truck thingy, there's no option for a manual transmission.

Allison builds a lot of transmissions for school buses and similar, I'm sure at least some of those are running Cummins engines.
I'll see what I can find on adapters.

Eek. $2400 just to make it work? I think I would go for a wrecking yard Duratec already mated to the Allison although I prefer the Cummins.
and that doesn't include the tranny itself!

The Duratec, as I understand it, is designed by Isuzu. They know their diesels. Haven't heard of any problems with them save the common rail issues that plague all modern diesels.

Give me a 12v 6BT with a mechanical fuel pump and I'll be happy.
