i have two 4x8 sheets of 1/8 or 3/16 aluminum.
i'm pondering tubing out the back of my 40 and re-skinning with the alum.

is it true that just a bit of heat will let the alum. bend with ease?
i'm thinking of the back corners here.

or i'm wasting time thinking about it :D

AL bends easily without heat..

Much easier than steel..

Use your torch and get a real sooty flame. Heat the aluminum a little, not a lot. It will soften it so you can bend it and work it. It will loose it's memory after you do this.

Jessie James had a really nice demonstration on this duirng his Discovery chanel series West Cost Choppers. He was making fuel tanks for his motocycles.

THAT'S WHERE I SAW THAT!

will it stay flexable till mounted?

is the aluminum 5052 , if so it will bend without heating......

if you do heat, quench it with water and it wont tear along the grain stucture......

i am building my own tub and i am almost at this point to bend the rear corner panels... just trying to find the time.... i have a build thread in the 40 section of the floor... if you want to have a look...

cheers adam.....
