Planing a fun run to sheeps crossing via bloddy basin road and return via FR24.
Meeting at Bloddy Basin Exit on I17 at 10:00 am
Most high clearance stock rigs should have little trouble with this run. Run from Bloddy Basin to Bartlett Lake Dam road should be 4-5 hours depending upon how long we paly around at sheeps crossing. Post up if you are interested. I can email you some maps of the run if you PM me with your email address. Hope to see some of the group out there.

there is supposed to be a crossing there. I have never done it though. I scouted to the north of the bridge there and there appears to be a crossing. The water is quite deep near the bridge. My topo map seems to indicate a crossing to the south. I'll scout it out this Sunday.

Tempting..... A few buddies and I almost went out there last weekend.

I haven't crossed the river in years, not since we had that really rainy January a few years back. The whole river shifted and raised so much it washed out the hot spring hot tub. When I first started going to the Verde, this measurement tower was in the water, now it's land-locked.

ever since the big flood there has been a deeper channel in the river, its the same at the childs crossing and again the same thing at the cross between horsehoe and bartlett. it can be crossed but i wouldnt advise just anybody in any rig can do it. definately be prepared to wade out and check first.

so when you come off the road to horse shoe, by the ranch its too deep to cross? used to cross lil one then a long one which had a deep spot at the end then you drove right by the ranch . you cant go thru?

not saying it cant be crossed, just urging new commers to the area or those returning after several years to check it out first,,, the river bottom has changed, the channel is deeper.

the cross you mention for example is no longer a long cross, its only about 30-40ft and you now make a hard left into it.

I have normally run from cave creek too. I have always wanted to come in off bloddy basin to check it out. The best place to top off is Carefree Highway & I17 IMO. Great to have you along! I'll be on CB ch 4.

I was looking for something to do on Thanksgiving and went from I-17 Bloody Basin exit to Sheeps Crossing. The river crossing was deeper than I expected. Water went over hood. Not the smartest thing I ever did, but it definitely gave me a shot of adrenaline.

The two crossings I did were not real wide, but they were both very deep. Over hood both times and one of the banks was really muddy. I was very glad to be locked front and rear that day.. Tons of mud!!

If I have some time, I may go out with you guys...it would be me and my two kids.

I'm thinking I should stick to the Cave Creek/Seven Springs route. Considering my truck isn't lifted and still has SUV tires, I don't think those two river crossings would be very smart on my part.

you talkin about the crossings on BB road blue? ive seen the agua fria pretty high, over the hood is some good water, especially on that small creek. your right about the mud, all along the mesa its some sticky slippery stuff.

The 1st crossing was right near the actual Sheeps Bridge...it was a well traveled. I would consider it the trail if you wanted to keep going east from the Bloody Basin Road. After crossing it I was immediately climbing out to the top that would overlook SHeeps Crossing from the east. The second crossing was probably 3 miles east of there when I trying to find my way out.....Again it was part of the trail. After that crossing it was getting dark and I could find my way around this huge crossing and I could not tell how deep the water was so I turned around and went back through both deep crossings again...it was crazy....

Okay, I'm a retard. For some reason I was thinking that the river crossings BlueCruiser was talking about were on BB road, and not at the bridge and on the way out towards Bartlett. So, BB road sounds great. I'll watch you guys cross the Verde and decide if I want to take a shot or turn my happy ass around.

Well I plan on running across BB road to sheeps and then backtracking to cave creek road and coming back through seven springs. The only "water Crossings" i plan on is the one on bb road for the agua fria headwaters and the 3 on tangle creek near sheeps crossing. This whole trail is street vehicle worhty. (high clearance reccomended. An office associate of mine ran his Honda civic out there a couple of years ago:rolleyes:) If anyone wants to cross the Verde river I will lend moral support and a towline if needed.
