I am considering putting together a set of larger tires/wheels that are optimized for trail runs and that can be shared between my 80 and my 40. I intend to only run this set on the more difficult trails and use the current ATs for daily driver duties and light/moderate trails on both rigs. The new tires will have to be driven to the trail, as I don't trailer either rig.
I found a wheel that will fit both the 80 and the 40 - Mickey Thompson M/T Classic II (p/n MT 368412). They are 16x8 with 3 5/8" backspacing.
So the next question is - what is the best TRAIL tire I can mount on these with a 2.5" OME lift on the 80 and a 4" lift on the 40? I suspect I will be limited to 35" (315/75R16) or 36" tires. Not sure about the width, though I would like to keep them on the narrower side. I am open to any tire, but have always been fond of the Interco TSL S/X. Unfortunately, they only have a 32" size on a 16" rim, though they have a number on 16.5" rims, but I assume they won't work on a 16" rim?
Other than the limited tire selection due to the wheel, am I missing any pitfalls with this approach?
Thanks,
