Darcie and I decided it would be nice to give the new camper an overnight try to figure out what worked and what we needed to improve. We have been up the road from Frenchman to Doyle, but never explored the area or driven north towards Milford.

Sunday afternoon, we loaded up and headed out. We got past Frenchman's Lake and as we were headed north, we came across a road labeled Dixie Point Lookout and decided to give it a try. As you can imagine it was one of the many Firewatch Lookouts that scatter the Sierras. The road had been bladed otherwise the snow would still have been too deep.

On the way up, we found some Holly and Snow plants in bloom.

The views...

We headed back down the mountain and turned north and as it was getting later in the after noon, we decided to look for a place to camp and turned off one of the roads in the area and found a great one.

Had to cross the creek to get there.

Woke up Monday morning and as I was looking around camp, I spotted a buck with his antlers still growing and velveted. I couldn't get a picture because he kept moving in and out of the trees and the camera wouldn't pick it up.

We packed it up (which took all of about 10 minutes) and took another way out. We made it up and out to the main road. As we were making our way north, Darcie spotted a bear. I skidded to a stop and got the camera out and was just able to get a picture of a beautiful cinnamon boar. He moved up the hill and we decided to leave him to his foraging.

Found a little fixer-up-er

The view out the front door.

We turned before making it to Milford and turned left and headed for Beckwourth on Hwy 70 and back home.

Everything worked great and we are really happy with it. Can't wait to give a longer test this coming weekend.

Nice photos Jack! Glad to hear everything is working out as anticipated.

:princess: and I were trying out the Flexbow this weekend, we had a lot going on last weekend so we hit Washoe Lake SP Thursday night.
We met a couple with a FWC Hawk . It was a very nice set-up.

I recognize the cabin at Ferris creek ranch, we cut our X-Mass tree across the road.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Thanks for sharing, great shot of the bear!

Flexbow?

Thank you, so far we are really digging it. Makes setting up and taking down camp much easier. We went from roughly an hour down to about 10-15 minutes.

Thanks. By the way, I swear I saw your old LX in Winnemucca the other day, it now sports a rooftop tent, but pretty much looked the same otherwise. Are you still enjoying your truck/camper?

Very Nice Jack!

Glad its working out for you!

Jack: yes Flexbow, but it went back to Sportsman's tonight. :princess: saw the Hawk and I think we may go another direction:rolleyes:. FWIW we had camp set up in about 20 min, striking camp was another matter, probably an hour or more. I hate putting a tent away dirty unless I have no other option. It takes a while to clean one up properly.

Edit: I have to say the Flexbow is an awesome tent, I set it up the first time solo in less than 15 minutes. It looks like it could easily stand up to any wind you might encounter and every bit of it was quality. Plus it is just a very well thought and implemented out design.

We usually don't just drop in on anyone.

We showed up late Thursday and left early Friday, just a quick overnight to try stuff out so it's no surprise you didn't see us.

Great pic of the bear. That's awesome. Can you post a pic of the camper from behind with the door shut please.

I think this is the only one I have right now.

Let me know if you need something else.

Nope that's perect. Do you know why they switch the door hinge side around? I won't say mine yet because I haven't taken delivery, but the hinge side is flipped.

No idea, it might have been a custom request. Most everyone I have seen hinges like ours. Hmmm.

I think it all depends where you have the aft window.
