Lift came in today, should be on this evening. Also picking up some BFG M/T's tomorrow. They are BIG! Probably going to have to do some metal chomping.

Jeremy

Your doing the lift and tires to your Tacoma? Details.

just dont back up with door open this year... :) :flipoff2:
Ouch. Belmont, you backed right pinto that one from Ron. Oops, no pun intended.

honestly though...i will be glad to see him on the trails....as he always had something going on with work, FJ40, new vehicles, moving, etc....This may be first time I have seen him offroad in years.

Be good to get everyone together up there.

Same here. Got the coils rebuilt and installed without any issues. No backinug up with the door open.

Took about 2 hours, not bad. Now I just have to put the rear leafs on and pick up my tires tomorrow. Riding with a bad case prerunner disease. If I was back in Cali they would be giving me a thumbs up.

Impressed with the 5100 shocks. They ride smooth even though they jack the truck up almost 3".

Pics!!!!!!

Here's a before and after of the truck with just the lift. I also have the tires and some firewood in the bed so it sits about 3/4-1" lower in the pic. Will have the tires on Sat.

NICE!!!
Is that a can back top?
i have one on my 4runner.

It's going to look great, Jeremy. I remember when I was going to buy a Tacoma. My plans were to do exactly what you are doing. Can't wait to see it with the tires.

Thanks, it's a Softopper. Not as expensive as a Canbak. It's built like a boat bimini top with a canvas cover so it can be removed or folded up in minutes. Really been happy with it.

I really want some armor, however if I like the big tires I will probably have to buy gears before a bumper. If I stick with the 35's i'll go sliders and gears next.

hey brock,
(or anyone else who has gone on this trip before)

what type of wheeling are we planning to do on this?
Here is the thing, i really want to go, but i was thinking the other day, if my truck was up to it.

comparing my measly stock 4runner to you guys' much more capable and modified rigs, i dont want to be beating the shiz out of this truck. Here are the specs: its open diff front and rear, no sliders, no winch, 98 hp, bald all terrains, and a 5spd manual, no trail spares. not really ideal at this point for wheeling.

i know its a 25 year old 4wd, and if i worked it i could probably make it through, but i bought it mainly for a daily driver with the look of a wheeler. i mean, i have the pathfinder to beat off the rocks and flip over and ****.:steer:
So, is this trip like a "dirt road trail" with a couple rocks here and there, and some good camp sites at the end? or a serious outing where some real 4wd is needed and probably broken trucks and carnage?

will there be stuff for me to wheel that you know with out a doubt that i wont get any body damage on? i mean i dont want to burn up the clutch, slide off an obstacle and put a big dent in my rockers cause i dont have sliders or something.

plus, i really dont want to be the guy that is holding everyone else on the trail up.

On the other side I really want to come camp and hang out with you guys. I really want to camp in this thing and do some baby wheeling.

so whats the deal??

Bryan,
You would be fine with your set up. We break up in three groups. Easy, moderate and difficult. You could d the easy trail in 2 wheel drive. The easy trails are nice and relaxing and if there were more moderate spots there is usually a bypass.
If you got up there and changed your mind then you could ride with someone.

allright. sounds good then.
i just was a little weary about it, not wheeling in general, but just wheeling this truck.
see, i havent even put this thing in 4wd once since i got it. i was too busy trying to fix other crap to get it on the road.

so i definitely can take it baby steps, get a feel for the truck, and work up from there? thats good.

i just dont want to hold everyone up. its a good idea to separate it out like that.

bbq, btw, did steven give you the cash. dropped it off at the resturaunt friday afternoon b4 leaving.

I got it. Thanks.
You won't hold anyone up. We ride pretty slow

your truck is fine...stock rigs go there all the time. You will want to stay off Daniel...maybe Dickey Bell...but most of the others have good go arounds. We usually start EASY in morning except for the hard core bunch that start with Kodak Rock and Daniel early. Ask for a spotter early...watch the tires and line of vehicle in front of you and how it reacts to the slight changes in trail to pick your best line.

a guy in Lowcountry LandCruisers took his open open stock 4Runner to Uwharrie couple years ago...did all the easy to medium with minimal issues....did not make it up Daniel..tried to POWER IT UP and broke. That is the lesson there.....light on throttle...heavy on skill and taking a good line. If you cant get up in a couple tries and different lines without beating on vehicle...we will pull or winch you over the obstacle.
i know its a 25 year old 4wd, and if i worked it i could probably make it through, but i bought it mainly for a daily driver with the look of a wheeler. i mean, i have the pathfinder to beat off the rocks and flip over and ****.:steer:

This event is mostly about the camping, eating, etc...with wheeling done in between...hahahaha. The trails are from mild to wild....get a set of hand helds if you dont have CB and guys in front can tell you which part to tackle and which to go around. Slow and steady....use spotters....or let your girlfriend drive. :princess:

It is whatever you want...you can go with absolutely no damage or close calls...or you can go and find something for damage and thrills...totally up to your comfort level.
will there be stuff for me to wheel that you know with out a doubt that i wont get any body damage on? i mean i dont want to burn up the clutch, slide off an obstacle and put a big dent in my rockers cause i dont have sliders or something.
Yes....no damage....if you get damage on the EASY trails then you need to sell your truck and buy a Prius.
plus, i really dont want to be the guy that is holding everyone else on the trail up.

With the hard trails...you will know within the first 10% if you are up for it....but we will tell you which to worry about and which not to worry. Dont worry.... If you do, then we will give you s*** around chow and the campfire....but if you are on the trail you will be fine. Now if we tell you DONT DO or TRY DANIEL or DICKEY BELL and you go against our wishes and get half way up and are stopped...then you might need to reconsider your sleeping arrangements that night. LOL:flipoff2:

On the other side I really want to come camp and hang out with you guys. I really want to camp in this thing and do some baby wheeling.

If all else fails...you can do the easy stuff in morning and ride with someone else on the medium and hard stuff in afternoon. When you are riding you get stuck with stacking rocks, pulling winch line, and taking pictures.....but you will not be left out of anything you want to particpate in. I recommend you run an easy trail in morning and go from there. Last trip we had a group go EASY....some had bone stock FJ40s that they did not want damage...some just did not want to have to deal with the trails or had kids with them. Another group did MEDIUM trails that can be HARD if weather or ruts are dug out.....but most can make it up if you have one locker or at least ATrac but will still want rock sliders at minimum. Then the HARD trails are for lockers and armor protection.....

Here you go Bryan...:steer:

"This event is mostly about the camping, eating, etc...with wheeling done in between...hahahaha."

That sounds like what i need for this run. lol. it will be the shakedown for this truck mostly.

This definitely makes me feel a little better about the whole thing.
so unless something drastic happens i plan to be up there with you guys.

hey are u guys leaving that thursday night (1st), or early friday morning (2nd)?
