hey guys, I'm new here as I've just purchased my first landcruiser. I tried a search but couldn't get a result. Just wondering if there's any specialty landcruiser service centers in the lower mainland area? I live in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

Thanks

One big vote for Ciaran!

One shop that does a number of cruiser repairs an is Gils Service station in Surrey.

A little history of this Garage-
Gils used to be a service station but they moved into a much larger building and have two perhaps three generations of loyal customers because of their quality service.
They do an excellent job and are fair in what they charge. They have such a loyal following they do not need to work on weekends or advertise. Go and stop buy and talk to Darrel or his Son and ask about their experience working on cruisers. Thy may show some of the pictures of other cruiser customers that have had extensive modifications.

Gils is just off of King George Highway around 74th in Surrey.

Gil's Service Station Ltd

Dose Ciaran have a mud name :) I still need to find a min head thickness on my 1hd-t

Does anyone know how to get a hold of Ciaran as his number (604-514-3716) is not in service any longer.

Can you suggest anyone in the lower mainland that is trusted and can deliver quality mechanical services. I have my motor, transmission, and transfer case out of the truck and I just can't get motivated to install my new clutch that I have sitting in a box.

Steve at EBI in Port Moody would be your man. He's a good mechanic and fair in his pricing.

Maybe ATEB if you got deep pockets. Not sure if they will install parts that they don't sell you. I know they don't like to sell parts that you get someone else to install. I had an ICBC claim and they wouldn't sell me a rotor because a shop in Abbotsford was doing the work. That and another instance lowered my image of them. However, I know many others who are very happy with them. Maybe it is just me. :meh:

Yes, but if they think they are the only source for said part they'll think they have you by the "short and curly".

I have been dealing with Ateb for 3 years. They do charge for their services. I have nothing but the highest praise for the way I have been treated there. Now that I have built a relationship with them, they give me a nice discount based on loyalty.

Those guys were in Malaysia working on diesel Land Cruisers decades before the 15 year rule allowed those Cruisers to be imported in any quantity to Canada. How many HDJ81s did we see running around here before 2005? Also, I have never been held up for lack of a part (even a RHD specific part) by them. I have basically rebuilt my whole truck there as well so that is a lot of bits and pieces! And the suppopsed higher cost of dealing with Ateb became moot with me when they came out on a Sunday to help me when I needed my truck the next day. 5 Stars.

That was pretty much it on a few occasions. But then again I only once asked about service from them and all the other instances were to just buy parts. I am too cheap to pay $300 for adjusting the bearings - a job I can now do myself in under 30 minutes. As for the parts, well if you advertise that you sell JDM parts, then don't pull BS stunts when you hear someone else is putting them on.

I have no doubt they are good mechanics and know Toyotas very well. Apparently they also know Nissans and other makes fairly well too. I am sure if I were a cream customer, then I would have gotten a different treatment. But don't advertise one thing and do another. In the end, i still got what I needed. It just took a little longer, cost a bit less and some other businesses got my money. :)

The other side of the coin is to ask ourselves what businesses should we as TLCA / IH8MUD members support? I think that all things being equal, the businesses that participate on MUD and in the TLCA ought to be considered first. That is why I tend to also recommend them first, even if it is for working on a :censor: Nissan. :D

I agree with this philosophy 100%. Building good relationships with service providers, whether it's parts suppliers, repair shops and what not is what gets you the best value over the long term. And that means buying from them; these folks have families to support just like we do.

Do your homework and keep them honest, but you're much better off getting to know one good shop and deal with them exclusively.

Our trucks are getting older and they don't make them anymore; our shops and parts dealers are our lifeline to enjoying these trucks for many years. Start building those relationships and you'll enjoy driving your older LC (or Safari, or Pajero, Ford, whatever) that much more.

Just my $0.02

I agree with AJAEbj42,

I advertise my mobile mechanical services and unfortunately, get really cheap customers who do not know the value of a good mechanic. I personally enjoy loyalty. I will not compete with some one that is way below my rates. How could I? these other mechanics rarely often have the experience, tools and know how and disappear over night simply because they do not charge enough to stay in business!

Support these guys and keep them in business. Do not go cheap and bounce around for the best price. I get that ALL the time.

BTW, I have a 1/2 ton transmission jack so if anyone needs there transmission dropped give me a call can do at your place or, these other shops.

Couldn't agree more.

Dale's Alignment on the Langley/Surrey border is excellent! They have that small shop service with fair pricing and knowledgeable staff. You feel like you've been a customer for a long time even after walking in there for the first time. A few dealerships like Langley Toyota Town send all of their alignment jobs to them.

Just an updated to the ATEB site. Ateb.ca was the old one, and now no longer up. They had to change web hosts, since they had no control of updating the their site, which was set up by another business associate that is no longer part of the bussiness. This is the new site and is now ATEB 4x4.com. Auto Tech Engine Brake Inc.

I've used EBI and ATEB with good results. I've used EBI for gear work and BEB's and other stuff. I've used ATEB more for 1HD-T issues, that I have had, and they have been great in backing me up in getting warranty work done. Just like Sailor, they have taken time out of their busy day to help me out, and I haven't been charged for it, and I'm greatful since my pockets lately seem to have holes in them. I know EBI and ATEB stand by there parts and their service.
