I have a 2004 Toyota Sequioa SR5 4x4, automatic . It has 97000+ miles on it so it is due for all fluid replacements transmission, transfer case, differentails & radiator. I drained the transmission and added 2 quarts of new fluid. The shop manual I have states capacity at 2.1 quarts. I took it on a short drive to town and back. when I got home iI checked the dipstick (while idilng as stated in the book) and it did not show any level. I added another quart and it still does not show full. Could the capacity information I have be incorrect? What is the correct capacity for this transmission?

If you pull a drain plug from your pan you will likely only drain a couple quarts, but if you were to get a flush done via the cooler lines the system likely holds at least 7 quarts up to maybe 10 or so.
Most of the transmission oil is in the torque converter and the cooler by the radiator.
The couple local Toyota dealerships tell me they do not recommend doing flushes but rather just change the 2 or 3 quarts that can be drained from a transmission and thus dilute the system by changing the oil in this manner.
My 05 Tundra doesn't even have a dipstick to check it and I think the filling is done by some unique method. I think I recall hearing that my 05 has a fluid that expands more than normal and I believe the level has to be checked at a certain temperature as well.
Not sure of the particulars on an 04 model Seq. If you can't find particulars in a manual perhaps your local Toy dealership service manager can give you the proper details.
