In an attempt to nail down a date for the September Farmington run, I'm starting this thread. Graham mentioned the annual cleanup is the 4th and 5th. Labor Day is the 6th. I'm sure this will be more cleaning and less wheeling if we pick this weekend, but Graham already mentioned that he has this weekend off.

Some posts listed the 18th as not good. The monthly meeting was proposed for that date anyway (by the person willing to host).

The next option (good with Graham if we nail it down soon enough) is the 11th and 12th.

Please express your interest to attend so we can make the dates official. I will commit to attending either weekend.

If you're not familiar with the Farmington area, specifically 'The Glade' aka Chokecherry Canyon, it's kind of like the Puerco on steroids. There is less loose sand and more rocks. Plenty of mild stuff for the wimps like me and plenty of hardcore stuff for everyone else. It is frequently the location for hardcore rockcrawling competitions. It's pretty much all BLM land so you can primitive camp on it, as far as I know. Or there's a KOA in town along with several cheap to expensive hotels. My sister lives there and I might be able to convince her let some people crash at her house or throw up a tent in the back yard, as long as you can deal with her two high-energy golden retrievers.

I'm out for 11th and 12th. I would put the option out for the 18th - 19th and have the meeting on a trail in farmington!

The clean-up weekend will most likely be 1/2 day of clean-up each day with wheeling all afternoon into the evening. Usually there is is big BBQ put on by one of the gas companies. There will be a lot of trucks from what I have heard about past events. Could be long days.

The weekend after of the 11th and 12th, I am off 9th-12th for anybody that is interested.

Can't help any other weekend as I will be back at the mine.

There actually are trails in Chokecherry. I've had much more fun doing a trail than just cruising around looking for obstacles. The trails have the good stuff. Less bypass' but there are some.

The Taco crowd I took through last weekend all wished they were lifted more and locked....didn't have the heart to tell them we did the stuff I do by myself as the "easy" stuff to stay out of trouble. When I go out with the local crew, I easily have the smallest tires at 33", most are on 35's and 37's with some on 39-42 tires. I'm the lowest lift wise too (saggy J's and full armor), but I seem to drag myself all over. Most have a rear locker or some sort, a few are open and it shows.

I would imagine trucks like Pappy, Beo, Ali, Beno, Evan, Greg, Steve, and of course Shawn will have a really good time. If your are on less lift and smaller tires, than me, you can have fun and I would recommend just exploring around the glade with Marc.:flipoff2:

I was at American today getting a new exhaust hanger. Bring it on.

So nobody else is interested in doing this? Everyone is saving up for October Moab? I'm not having success convincing Danise that we should go. I also haven't checked with my sister's schedule (free hotel) to see if she's in town or working that weekend yet. Guess I should get on that.

Based on this thread, the 'official' cleanup will be Saturday, Sept. 4th, only.

Yep,

The clean-up is on Saturday.

Here's the Pirate4x4 link: 4th Annual Farmington Clean Up - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

At this point, I knew that nobody would be making it, so, I went ahead and changed plans.

Yes, I will still be at the clean-up, but I will try to catch a ride with a local group of buggies to get a better feel for that game. Should be cool and should show me a lot more of the crazy Chokecherry has to offer.

If others are still coming, I can help out with directions and such. There should be a ton of trucks around to drive with.

Enjoy,

Graham

I do want to make it up soon for some wheeling Graham, so don't mark us out forever.:D this year is bad for me with all the extra stuff doing on. Yellowstone, Durango, Moab, Baja 1000...I'm full up on trips.:grinpimp:

Time for your to add King of Hammers (KOH) to your list. It's outside of Palm Springs in February. Said to be the next great desert race.

when are you going to yellowstone? we just got back, it was awesome. Would be even cooler without the crowds, but they are easily escaped.

yellowstone was in mid July.

Baja 1000, I am leading a chase crew for Team Dirt Bike Bucket List. I get to play and not just watch!:bounce::grinpimp:
