Thought i'd share the for sale ad here also in case someone is interested in a nice street bike. The link to cycle trader is here http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2011-Yamaha-Fz8-112271395

I dropped the price by $500, so now its for sale for $5500. Great bike, well taken care of, just looking for something different. I put a small deposit on the next 2014 BMW 1200GSA in Alpine white that comes in, which is in about 2-3 weeks. I just want to go further with some dirt mixed in. Sold my dual sport last year to finance my road trip last year. Just want the best of both worlds.

Heres a few pics of the bike.

Bump for a clean machine

Slight hijack question -

If your interest is truly more dual sport riding out of curiosity why the 1200GSA over the R800GSA?
The 1200GSA is a dream on the road but at 600lbs unloaded is a hand full off road and in most cases you will need help picking it up when you do fall.

shaft drive, boxer engine, more wind protection, seems to accommodate 2 up better. Maybe I watched Long Way Around too many times? Research(and test riding one) tells me the 1200GSA is a bad ass, do anything machine. You are right, picking it up after a drop could be a big deal and the 800 would be easier to lift and more agile, but its a hefty one too. Im dreaming of doing the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route...Phoenix to Alaska....Baja. I believe this to be the cream of the crop bike, the best of the best in adventure touring bike.

I know you've owned a few dual sports, whats your preference?

Spent a lot of time on my friends 1200gsa and it is a wonderful ride hands down but for off road you its a different animal. Phoenix to Alaska I would say 1200 but Baja due to the sand you better be on your A game 100% of the time. A 600lb bike with another 100lbs of gear is a BIG hand full for the best of riders. In the past even with two people we have found it necessary to remove gear just to pick the POS up and still faced with the sand challenge once up. Its a trade off for sure but even my Dakar at 450lb is a ton of work off road unless its your average forest road. When a 600lb+ bike starts to go over there is no dabbing your foot, its get the F out of the way because its going down!

As for Long way Around dont overlook it was a movie and sponsored by BMW. ;)

If you do go with the 1200 in the end you will become a much better rider in a lot better shape:eek: or find yourself living in the desert in a remote sand wash.:hillbilly:

HI-Jack over
Now someone buy his bike so I can test ride the new one:)

Long Way Around riders both said after fiinishing Long Way Down that a smaller bike would have been a lot smarter because of the two man effort to right them and the added damage done when they were dropped.

Proud owner of a 2012 GSA. Handles like a dream and it's so comfortable on long trips. I agree with Phil, she's a bear in the sand but for many of the forest roads around here I wouldn't trade it for anything. Enjoy your new GSA when she comes in and look up the Gs Riders of GOAZ on Facebook and of course AARG on Meetup for some great group outings.

whats AARG on Meetup? I assume its a club on a website.

thanks.
