My wife was driving home in torrential rain when all the dash gauges died.. The compressor had seized, and due to rain no squeal just lots of friction/heat.

I had to cut the belt off as it was melted to the compressor pulley. A wire in the compressor shorted likely the jacket melted. For some reason, I have not looked at schematics yet, The short to gnd took out the 10A gauge fuse….?

I had the same thing happen. Clutch went bad. I unplugged the electrical connection, replaced the fuse and got all of the gauges back. I ended up doing a total refurb on the AC system (new compressor, new condenser, new dryer, new evaporator). Mine also had R12 in it so I did the conversion to R134a (R12 was evacuated). I am getting it charged next week with R134a and hoping for some AC before the summer ends.
