I am new to these forums and was not sure where this post would be most logical. I have been a fan of the Toyota Landcruiser for the past 18 years and can finally afford to buy one; however, the newer models, according to the dealers I have visited, do not allow for the removal of the 3rd row seating. I was informed that some of the previous year models allowed this. So I wanted to ask this community's advice on which year model would best serve this purpose. I also intend to use this vehicle for camping, skiing, and basic being prepared for 4X4 situations that may occur in everyday life. My intention for removing the 3rd row seating is for more cargo room and I would like to keep it "clean" no metal parts sticking up or gaps in the floor. If anyone knows what I am talking about or has some suggestions I would love to discuss this.

the seats are very easy to remove: snap off the plastic covers, unscrew four bolts. when i did mine, before i built the drawer system for the back, i cut a new floor mat for the whole area out of 1/2" rubber mat and it looked very clean. the extra room from removing those seats was great.

some of the recent year models I have looked at are a bit more complicated than that, they have hinges that stick up which connect to the seats, so removing the seats leave these metal hinges whose base attachments are unreachable...

you can cleanly remove the 3rd row in a 200 series(08'-)

all you end up with is gaps in the factory floor mat for the rear.

like Mark71 said, just get a new rear floor mat (universal) and the gaps are gone.

On the 200 all that is left is the base. It sticks out from the wheel well about 1 - 1-1/2"...not a big deal. I had an 80 that retained the hinges, or it was a pain to get at. Not sure about the 100 series. Like Mark71, I fashioned my own mat out of industrial carpet. Looks pretty clean, and there is now a ton of space. It is also easy to re-install the seats. Like he said, 4 bolts.

These are the four bolts over 2 locations:

No rear seats....more cargo room....you suck!

2X.

I have 3 daughters and 2 in-laws, makes for little cargo realestate.

I have 2 kids and a dog...no third row! It is awesome, my wife can pack for 2 weeks when we go away for the weekend, and a happy wife = happy life.
