Secondary air pump-- is it possible to block it off and code out the errors, and still pass plug in OBD2? Or do you have to get the Hewitt tech kit? (1 Viewer)

On my other cars (BMWs), you can just block off the secondary air pipe and modify the tune on the car yourself using free software to disable the system, and not throw any codes. Also passes plug in OBD2 with no issue. I far prefer a solution like this to something like the Hewitt tech kit because there's nothing to fail, and you're just paying for the block off plates (so like $10, all in).

Does something similar exist for the 100? Or are you stuck running simulators?

Similarly, when I get rid of the AHC system, I'd like to do the same-- code the car to not expect it, instead of adding sims.

Possible?

Nope to all your Qs.

You won't pass plug-in OBDII with any kind of SAIS bypass from what I have seen.

You also can't "code out" the AHC. You'd just remove bulbs in the dash so it wouldn't blink anymore or show AHC OFF.

Find a 99-05 Land Cruiser so you don't need to mess up a great VVTi truck by borking SAIS and AHC. Or find another Bimmer SUV thinger to toss some neato mods on to vroom vroom. Thx.

Never had a bimmer suv thing, so hard to get another :p

Not sure why you think removing the secondary air pump or AHC would mess up a VVTi truck.

I guess good call on blocking the cluster light. I'd rather just recode the the truck to think it doesn't have AHC, but if you can address the symptom.. why address the problem?

I like when folks dive into semantics with my word choices. Go find your first Bimmer SUV to do neat things to. Such as, defeating emissions equipment or adding M-Power stickers to the top of the front windshield.

Removing AHC from a 100 is a shame unless it's rusty. Defeating SAIS is a federal crime.

Search and you will find what you are looking for. It's all out there and documented with hundreds of pages of thoughts.

I have no desire for a car on stilts. Any SUV I buy will be body on frame. Any car I be will be car sized.

I've done searching, and people are defeating the SAIS system using the Hewitt tech kit. I'm looking to apply what I know from other chassis to accomplish the same thing a better way. 25 years in, it's not unreasonable for the community to be able to control the computer systems of a vehicle.

Just for context, here's the entire e46 M3/e39 M5 ECU, reverse engineered:

And a definition file that lets you modify any aspect of it in Tuner Pro:

And a tool that lets you do things like disable the secondary airpump with a single check box:

These are the kind of things that enthusiast communities often generate.
