PM sent Tim. It's looking like it might work really well.

Tim, I have a question:

By fully securing the splitcase will that put stress on the aluminum case directly? I don't know if the splitcase is made to be mounted and then take the torque, especially behind a V8 and 203 box. I guess you could use rubber cushions at the mounting points on the frame.

I could be way off here and my question is irrelevant but it did cross my mind.

I plan to hard mount the plate but isolate it with bushings that I have to give it some flex....I guess I will give it a try and if it fails then I learned my lesson...right??? I found yet another split case in my garage last weekend when I cleaned up my garage...

So if it fails....back to the drawing board...I am just worried about having all the weight of he 203 and split case hanging off 6 3/8 " bolts...that scares me...

I think there are 6 but either way that is not enough in my opinion for all the weight hung off the back.....oh and off topic I found the old air cleaner housing for the motor in my garage...

I agree with you on all the weight hanging off the tranny/transfer adapter plate bolts, it does look like a catastrophe waiting to happen. I think if you made another crossmember with the rubber mounts like the 203 adapter has it would be safe. But you are designing and testing it so I will wait to see how you do, in the meantime I will be waiting patiently :D

Weight or Torque?

I would think that the forces exerted by the incredible torque of the doubler would dwarf the weight issue but definitely a good idea.

I have seen the old 3 speed case support goof up all the bolt holes so definitely go big as those holes were not designed to support the weight of the case nor the torque/twist action.

How about engine mounts, the are part of the support system as well, any means of keeping them from getting ripped in two?

This is an issue, as almost anyone with a 60 can tell you. It's really only the DS that has a problem-It is easy to wrap it with a short piece of chain and keep it in one piece. I've done that as a trail fix after it broke. On the passenger side, the forces are down and so it doesn't tend to tear in half like the driver's side does.

I just want to thank everyone for their thoughts and wishes...I guess I will just embark on this project and see what he results are...Don't expect quick and decisive answers...the truck hasn't been through smog yet and really can't go on many long test trips..I hope to get it back together soon and then start the smog process...then little trips and then larger more involved testing...Again this was just something that caused me concern and I am trying to find an answer...keep the ideas coming we can all learn....

Don,

No I have not spoken with Gary about this....That might be a good idea ....I will shoot him a link to this thread...
