I am looking at building a second crossmember to support all the weight involved with my doubler and am looking for ideas on how to support the rear of a split case. How would you attach a second crossmember to the rear of a splitcasee to the crossmember??

If you have the skills/means to make a good pattern of the bolt holes on the back side, the plates that capture the bolts on the backside seem like a really elegant way to do the crossmember. Ive only seen it for minitrucks, but heres a link to what im talking about.

How did Chevy support the NP203 t-case to begin with? i assumed that the adapter that sandwiches between the 700R4 and the 203 GRB was the only support and that the rest of the 203 t-case hung on the GRB.

I would think the Toyota split case is lighter that the chain drive 203 t-case stuff hanging off the GRB. (This is a wild ass guess only).

Anyone?

Don,

That was what i was thinking until I took it all apart again this weekend...Good I love doing that:frown: :frown:

I am just really worried about having all that weight hanging off 6 3/8" bolts....Just kinda scares me...I wanna add a second crossmember like the one up front and then attach the split case to it fo added strenght and piece of mind...

Any and all ideas are welcome...

Couldn't you make a patern of the bottom half of the splitcase bolts and make a plate that attaches similar to the one above, then add the xmember at the bottom. You would attach it to the splitcase w/ the bottom bolts that hold the 2 halves together. You would only need to source some longer bolts at the attachment points.

Does that make any sense?

Honestly that was kinda of my theory...I was going to make like three little legs and then attach them to a new crossmember..so I guess we have similar thoughts...Thanks

I would try to do it as one piece so as to limit the quantity of places taking torque. IE: welds.

That makes sense...guess i will need to find someone with a plasma...don't really wanna try and cut it by hand,,,,do you think the bottom three holes would be enough?? Guess i bought that extra t-case for a reason....mock up here we go...

I will be definetely interested in what you come up with Tim. Post some pics of the progress if you can.

I sure will....this whole thing got started when I pulled the 203 and split case off againthis weekned to seal a leak and figure out why my 203 kept popping outta gear.....then when I was remouinting it I said the 6 bolts holding this whole mess together doesn't sound like a great idea...

Spare xfer? Hell you're way ahead of the game! Get 'er done!!

Yes. I couldn't turn it down for 75 bucks plus the ride.....It should give the cahnce to work it out before messing with the one on the truck...I will hopefully get some time with it on Thursday or Saturday...Damm work always getting in the way of truck fun...

Ok, guys I have made a paper template of the plate.... I need now I just gotta find some way to cut it out...It will attach with 4 bolts at the bottom of the split case...2 bolts on each side of the drain plug...Anyone else have any interest in one of these plates???

Yup!

I would love one.

I will be be picking my plate up in a few minutes...I will see what it cost to have it cut and how much grinding is involved and post pics and provide info later tonight...

Ok here is what I have....It is just a start and hope that after tommorow I will have a better idea if it works....Right now I have a bracket cut out roughly and will grind it down and drill the 4 mounting holes...I can get these made plus my grinding time done so if interested let me know....But i would like to see how mine turns out first...Hope you all understand...

The plate is 10 and 3/4 inches long and like 3/8 's thick....

Tim-That's lloking good. If it doesn't end up costing a fortune, I definitely want one. Tell me if you think it might work-I have an H55 and want to install a Toybox. I'll keep the stock crossmember and adapt something to clear the driveshaft. I want to also support the rear of the t-case, since the tranny, toybox and t-case will be a loooong combo.

Andrew,

That is exactly why I took on this project..I have a 203 and split case...This is designed to bolt to the back of the split case and add a second crossmember....I am looking at like $40 to $50....is that reasonable???
