Seattle peeps, where are you getting your oil change?

Curious to know where Seattle owners get their 200 oil changed. An indy I go in Bellevue raised his oil change price, and last Fri charged me $77 including tax for 0W/20 sythentic on my 09 LX570.

Is this price on par with what others are paying? I don't have the patience to do my own oil change, hence I go to an indy, and I just want to make sure this guy's price is fair. Where are some of you guys/gals getting your oil change at? Thanks.

Well, for $77 you can get a boss pan with spout ($20) (easy to pour the oil back in for recycling), the oil ($30), a TRD filter ($15), and the $10 oil filter holder wrench adapter.
For another $20 you can get the metal oil filter holder, $25 for a fujimoto plug, and $25 for the filter quick drain. So in about 2 changes you pay for the whole mess, and upgrade your parts collection and parts quality.

I had to replace these items from past screwed up oil changes - the oil drain armor piece (gone), six armor bolts, and three fender bolts. Also the oil filter holder (plastic) was removed in the past with an air hammer. Everything was WAAAAY overtorqued. All in all my rig will never see an oil change anywhere. It's just too risky. And it's not like with 7500 mile frequency you'll do it more than once a year anyhow.

if it helps it was the first oil change I'd done in 15 years, at least, maybe more. I know you offroad, more than I do for sure, it's just too critical a system to fuff about with IMO.

As for shops, this import place I used in Ballard is now apparently closed. That sucks. If you find a local let me know.

We have 6 cars in our family and do all the oil changes ourselves. Each of my teenagers change their own oil and I do my FJ60 and 87 BMW convertible + the wife's FJ Cruiser. Basically do them each once/year, altho the wife's truck racks up more mileage, so sometimes that's 2x/yr. Run synthetic in everything except the FJ60 and my daughter's 1976 ford f150. Usually run a syn mix in the FJ60 and old school oil in the Ford. Those trucks see less than 7,500 miles/yr. Reason I force the kids to do their own oil change is so they understand how to use tools and what working on a car is like. They may choose to pay someone to do it when they grow up, but for now, I buy the oil, they do the work. Most of their classmates can't find the dipstick or check tire pressure. I made sure mine can change a tire, drive a stick shift, change their oil and shoot a gun. Freaks the Seattle natives out a litte :-)

Autoworks of Issaquah gets rave reviews, and is a local indy shop if you're looking for options.

I always take my cars to the dealer for oil changes. You don’t need an appointment at the local Lexus dealer, and it costs around $70 out the door for full synthetic. They do a quality car wash and dry by hand, and they always have good food, drinks, etc. I know how to work on my own car, but it’s not worth my time for messy and simple jobs like that.

I went against my better judgement recently and changed my diff fluid at home and it reminded me why I hate doing stuff like that myself. Stinky, nasty fluid you have to bottle up and recycle is not my idea of fun on a Saturday!

Very valid point on the parts/prices. I have just too much stuff going on with my business, kids, home, and church stuff, so I need to outsource it to someone for now. Maybe when I decide to slow down later I may do my own oil :)

Mind me asking, I'm pretty sure the truck's computer gives me a reminder every 5,000 miles, could be wrong. With full synthetic, do you depend on the computer reminder or do you keep track of the 7,500 mark?

I'll let you know if I find someone local and trustworthy.

Yep I hadn’t done a change in a very long time. I didn’t miss storing all the stuff either. Everyone has a different set of priorities and time value, didn’t mean to toe step.

But so much was messed up by the previous Lexus dealer I didn’t trust. I think the armor is a big disincentive for techs. Also my rig has seen more service opportunities and suffered some for it.

Anyhow so let me know on a shop I work eastside frequently.

As for time consider amazon brings it all to you, so even if you do it all wrong like I did on my first change, it is still only 2 hours total. I live 30 min from Seattle Lexus, so it was at worst time neutral for me. There’s a jiffy lube very close to me, last time there for my minivan it took a full hour.
I would never take my rig there.

No toes stepped :)

This armor, is this the skid plate underneath the truck one has to remove to do the oil change? If so, I overheard this indy I went to complain about it to his worker.

I wonder if Amazon would start offering oil changes. Click a button and a mechanic comes to your house for an oil change. That would be pretty awesome and a time saver.

Yes the front left us driver side skid and also a small plate for oil plug access. Techs tend to ‘lose’ the bolts for the armor, it’s gets in their way, and most owners will never know. . .
