The drivers seat belt in my 77 fj40 looks like a grizzly got ahold of it. I need to replace it but also want to set it up for top-off driving. What's my best shot? Lap belts? Roll bar mounts?

3 point harness is the best for on road driving. Some blue hair in a volvo pulls out in front of you and you're going to see how collapsible that steering wheel is. You should have tabs on your roll bar for the shoulder pivot.

four point is enough of a PIA to get in most folks don't wear the shoulder harness, myself included, but I do have them in both seats of the pig.

x2, rollbar mounting 3points would be waht i would do. lapbelts are not safe for wheeling i would imagine

X3

I'm happy with the ones I got from CCOT.

I've been dealing with the same dilemma for the past few weeks- just solved it today at 4-wheel parts.

I finally decided on the 4-point restraint for the front 2 seats....and the 3-point for the bench seat in the back for the kids.

Reason being, it's a soft-top truck 100% of the time. I want to lessen the likelihood of shoulder and mid-back damage in the event of an accident - like 11 years ago with a 3-point over the shoulder style harness. I have to this day severe nerve damage because of a tweaked back - if I had a 4-point restraint- the damage could have been much less!

I had to go with a 3-point over shoulder system for the bench seat in back of the 40 - because that is what is needed for child-seats. No child will ever sit in the front seat of the truck while they're needing to be in a booster seat - and you can't make the 4-point work with most kid seats.

Spend the $300 or so on a set of Corbeau seatbelts from 4WheelParts, and you'll be pleased you did!

x4 on the rollbar mounted retractable 3 point harness. I use mine as a daily driver so I didn't want the hassle of 4 points. I bought mine from CCOT, but after 1 month without the top they looked worse than the 30 year old OEM belts. For the same price you could go to Wesco performance or any other similar brand and get better ones.

patience is a virtue

Well, like my Dad always said, "I have lots of patience because I haven't used any yet." After reading a few threads I went ahead and ordered the set from CCOT. Plan on plenty of off top driving so I hope they hold up.
Thanks

Hey, I would like to know how they held up. I'm just about to order some for my wifes BJ42 and don't want to put her at any risk!

They have held up well in everyday use. They spent all summer in the sun with no visible fading. I attached them to the roll bar so I wouldn't have to mess with them when I take the top off.

Thanks for the tip! I was looking at the CCOT belts the other night. Looks like I'll get some.

I will be adding this to the 'to-do' list. Thanks for the feedback on the CCOT seat belts!

I bought the complete set so I have their belts on my jump seats also. Fit great!

Thanks alot for the feedback! With a go from a feloow mudder we ordered a set for the front, we have no rear seats in the BJ42.

Looking forward to recieving them!

They way I see it your toast regardless of what restraints you are using in a 40 at any speed above 50... . .:skull:
