I purchased my 99 Cruiser last year around this time, from Brian Harris BMW in Baton Rouge LA. 99500 +/- miles. I was told at the time of purchase that the person who traded it in was a multiple cruiser owner, and that the truck belonged to his wife who wanted to upgrade. My truck runs great, and I have only had the minor small issues with it that we all have, but I was hoping to maybe track down the PO in the hopes of finding out what maintanence items they might have completed. I do not have all the service records for the truck prior to the purchase. I am the third owner, I have no hopes of finding out what was done to it by the first owner, unless the Toyota Owners website will help me. I hate to complete preventive maintanence on something that may have been done already.

When I bought the truck the running boards were removed, which is definately a sign of being a Forum member. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I don't believe the previous owner was a forum member.
My guess is the vehicle was owned by a teenager due to
all emblems painted black
running boards removed
a good bit of mud caked up underneath from mud riding and not cleaning it.

I went and inspected and test drove this cruiser before i bought mine. As soon as i crawled under the truck and saw all the mud i left the lot.

I thought the same thing when I crawled underneath. You let a little mud scare you away? I am glad you did cause I got a great truck for a great price. Had it inspected and every thing looked great.

It was priced very well by the time you bought it. :) When i went to look at it they had it listed for 15,500 and the salesman said "I'd have to talk to my manager about lowering the price but he is pretty firm on 15k".
That plus the mud is why i didn't. Outside of those two things, it drove very well, rear locker came on immediately, and the interior/exterior was in great shape.

Did you register at the Toyota Owners site and put in the VIN yet? That will give you all the records done at a Toyota dealer.

Doesn't give you ALL the service history - at least not for 2 of my vehicles which both have had major services done at Toyota dealerships. My Hundy had the tranny replaced right before I bought it as a Toyota Certified Used - and I've personally seen the service slip so I KNOW it was done at Toyota. Also have a Corolla that had 5th gear got replaced once and the whole tranny replaced a year later, from Toyota both times - neither of these trips show up on my service records from the Toyota Owners site.

just sayin'

Good to know. I work on the website for a competitor and we were thinking Toyota had it all figured out. It sounds like the service codes can vary per dealer. In your case maybe Toyota's system couldn't decode the services not shown.

They had it listed for 15-5?, I got out the door for 11:). They must have been sitting on it for a while.

The Toyota Owners web site is a great idea, as long as its been serviced there, I was unable to find the information I was looking for. Thanks for the input!

Toyota owner web site will get you the info; when I bought my LC100, it was a one owner dealer maintained truck, I ran the VIN on the site, it gave me all the records that was done at dealer.
A printout from the local Lexus dealer gave me much more detail than what I found on the owners' website...gave me the name, city, and state of the original owner. Also, gave me 2 or 3 service notes that didn't show up on the owners' site.

Have you asked that dealership if they're at least willing to pass on your contact info to the people who traded in the LC? That is the only way to know what was done to it. If that doesn't work, the only thing to do is bite the bullet and perform the full service. Better safe than sorry.

Great idea, hadn't thought of that.
