Hi,
I was playing around on my '83 FJ60 with the engine running as you do. I thought i could hear a noise coming from inside the dizzy cap. I held onto to it and it felt life it had a bit of a vibration though it. Is this normal? It may have just been vibes from the engine running i guess. Anyway i was touching the screw that points towards the rear of the engine and i was getting a constant mild electric shock from it. There are some wires mounted on it. Is this normal? or a sign that it isn't earthed properly or something?

Cheers,

Mark

Tingle?

Sounds like fun for being shocked. I usually am pretty careful not to get shocked by the dizzy cap and wires when working on anything without brand new ignition parts, as a small leak can cause a good strong shock at times. I have an FJ62, so I can't help by checking my screw, but I would say you are getting a small voltage leak from somewhere. Make sure the cap isn't cracked would be my first check.Good Luck.

Thanks,
I did check the cap and couldn't find any cracks. It's in pretty good cond as is the rotor button and points. Any other ides as to cause? If it won't affect performance of anything i'm not concerned. Just thought it was a bit unusual.

Cheers,

Mark

Take a picture of it for best answers. :D

hi, with the points distributor , the rubbing block on the points which " rubs " on the shaft sometimes needs a little grease. i`ve had em make a slight click/tick ing noise put a little grease and noise goes away !

Pull the cap and see if the rotor button has lateral play.

Also when checking for voltage leaks check it while its running in the dark.
