As the title states, my driver window screams and screeches when begin lowered. On the trip back up it sometimes "snags" and lowers itself.

At first I thought it might be dried out gaskets, but I really have no idea...

Anyone have a fix?

you can usually grease everything in there up with marine grease and that will fix it up pretty good, but the window dropping at times makes me think you might have something else going on too...

The whole snagging on its way up then going back down scenario might not be snagging. Could be the anti pinch feature is wigging out. Try raising the window by pulling up on the window switch just far enough to roll the window up but don't pull the switch up to the "auto up"
click. Does that make sense? Pull up gently and don't click the auto up feature. Should close the window and then you can put some graphite lube on the inner part of the window seal on both sides.

Sent from my iPhone. Clumsy fingers may contribute to mistakes.

Muddy,

Making it go up w/o the auto works fine. In fact it usually goes right back up with the auto.

I tried using white lithium before and it didn't seem to help much. Would the graphite be better?

I've got a similar problem... Sometimes when I roll up my DS window it screeches like a f*cking banshee! Super annoying but I haven't gotten annoyed enough to do anything about it haha the day will come and when it does I will be so determined to find a fix.

I have not lubed a Land Cruiser window, but I had excellent results with liberal use of silicone spray lube for the same problem on my son's CR-V. I just thoroughly sprayed the mechanism inside the door with the window down and then cleaned the glass with it up. YMMV.

If the screech is caused by the window seals, then graphite lube on the seals will fix it. If it's the internal window lifting mechanisms, then by all means, lube it up with some grease :)

Update on this...

Turns out the silicone did nothing.

So I finally took the door apart and pulled the window, regulator, and motor. Did some trouble shooting on it, and it turns out that it was the motor making all the noise, so I took it apart and cleaned it up. Put it all back together and its as good as new!

Yeah I tried the silicone too and it worked for the first few cycles of up and down, but after that it was even squeakier... I dread taking apart the door

Its really not bad. When you pull it all out make sure you do the step to set up the jamb protection thing, or you will have to do it all over again like I did!

Dreading this too, but I may take the plunge soon as my loudest screech and weakest door lock are both on my driver door.

Glad to know this can be easily fixed. I'm surprised it was the motor though. Judging by the title, we all must be talking about the same screech but it really sounds like it's coming from the vertical seal on the B pillar...

Yes it does sound that way. Mine was 100% the motor. Once you pull the motor off of the regulator, unscrew the silver motor from the black plastic part and clean off the motor "spindle". Mine had some gunk in there. Seems to be all cleared up.

Awesome reply, thanks a ton for the help revoked... However, with the rain coming and the windows living in the up position, I may not be motivated til spring now lol!

Oh, btw, where are you located? I'd love to find more hundy owners around me...

Well I don't know if I would waste your time taking the thing apart. It started screaming again yesterday, looks like I will need to start shopping for a new one.

Mine doesn't squeal constantly, and I've actually found that it it squeaks on the way up I can usually just stop the window and then continue rolling it up and it won't squeal for the rest of the way up. But the windows are also starting to get slow so I'm going to take the doors apart anyways to clean everything up.

I would be happiest to just replace my window motors while I'm in there replacing the door lock actuators. do we just need to find the right motor, or is there more too it? Haven't been in there yet, so I apologize for the ignorance.
