Hey everyone, scrap steel isn't going for much these days but it can certainly be annoying to keep around. I've got a bit of scrap in my trailer and am making a trip up to CMC Recycling Saturday Morning to drop it all off. I don't expect to get much $$ for the metal, I'm more or less just looking to get it out of my hair.

Does anyone in RTP have scrap metal they want to get rid of? If so, I can come pick it up, or you can drop it off, tonight or tomorrow, anything from a single bad rim to a trailer-full. If you have a bunch, we can work out splitting up what I get in $ from the scrap yard.

I think that most people have my phone number, so feel free to give me a call. If you don't have my number but have some steel to get rid of, start a "conversation" with me on the forum and I'll give it to you.

Once again, not looking to make money off of this trip, just to help people get rid of their unwanted steel and recoup fuel costs.

Thanks everyone!

9 cents a pound is all that it's bringing around here. I've got a bunch to haul off if you want to drive this way! ;)

Can't tomorrow buddy, that's too far out of the way. Sorry man!

What, for 9 cent a pound? I must have over 300 pounds....and what about that great mileage you are getting with that diesel. ;)

Between a scrap A440, a scrap 2F short block, fenders and random pieces of heavy-gauge steel, yeah, I think I've got at least 300#.

Well how early do you want to get up? If you've got a bunch you need to get rid of, I could be out there by 7 or 8, then up to CMC by 9, that would work.

How much do you have exactly?

i got some scrap you can take. old trailer frame cut up. been planning on getting rid of it for awhile.

Thanks Johnny but I think I will just sleep a little longer. :). Be prepared to be grilled with where it came from, drivers license, photographed, finger printed, cavity search, etc,,, and god forbid you have copper, can't give cash, it's got to be check. I think I'd rather go to landfill than recycler but at least they pay you. I hope you get enough to fill Moonshines tank.

Lol. I'm hoping they'll trust me a little, considering Ryan works there and I'll be going with him.

Thanks buddy!

I've got some also, just have to find a way to get it to you. Nothing big, just pieces of tube mostly. The 80 is still being re-assembled and my only transpo is the moto unless I beg for Regina's Camry but she can't ride the moto solo...

Kenny i'll look through your scrap when i'm there on saturday after I get off of work.... there might be some things I could use for my trailer build.

I'll call you later. Gotta stop at Ramon's too and you're on the way to his house :D

I thought you were going to cars and coffee. You gotta work in the afternoon? Oh well, I'll see you at the lake when you get there and we can check the scrap on your way back home.

And Johnny, the reason I was ragging scrap yards is I replaced my old gas pack with a heat pump and broke everything down; you get big money for the copper and the coils? that surround the unit, if they are separated. I had to go back home and dig up my Heat Pump receipt in order to sell to them. I got about $150 by doing that versus !! cent a lb at the time, about $20. I know there are a lot of thieves and I'm glad they do what they do with photos and ID's but if you aren't prepared, it can take up a lot of your time.

Watch out for Ryan though, I wouldn't trust that guy! :p

My mistake Al. Eric posted to your old thread from April. See you when you get here.

And Johnny, I reread and you go tomorrow. Our scrapers aren't open on Sat so was thinking today. Let us know how you do. Good Luck!

Yeah Kenny, trip was this morning :D

Big thank you to Jerry, Tim, Eric and Terry (yes, Terry (formerly) from Cary) for donating material! Y'all helped pay for fuel and then some.

Truck, trailer and load tipped the scales at 9200# without my fat ass. Unloaded and came out with truck, trailer and a set of FJ60 rims with tires at 7520#. Trailer weighs ~1400# empty, so Moonshine, with 3/4 tank of fuel, without me, weighs a shade over 6000#.

Crossmember isn't doing so hot. I need to move the rear bumper construction up the list a bit!

I just scrapped about 800 lbs worth of stuff (90% of it being the 3F) and got about $92 over at Foils in Harrisburg.
