Stopped in my dealership toady and left with my Voodoo blue FJ. MY first impressions are: you get used to the sight lines from inside the vehicle pretty quickly (might just be from fear of hitting things), I have no problem with the power, and actually find that it has plenty of gitty up, and finally it is plain old friggin AWESOME. If you need a family vehicle stick to your mini van, if u want sick amounts of power get a bmw m3, if you want to be the happiest guy on your block you get the FJ. So far no issues have popped up, but if humans touched it, then we may encounter some issues. Will update this as required.

Does the RH windshield pillar block your view in a RH turn?

I found that to be an issue for me in the one I drove. I have been thinking of getting one for my wife but I am a bit concerned about that.

That would be you.

Actually, It may be ugly, but to me thats a part of the reason i love it. I had no issues at all with the pillars, when i did test drive it, I thought oh my cant see anything there or out the back window. Honestly, after driving it all day, it never was an issue or even an afterthought. If you have a tendecy to run into things, this will probably increase with this vehicle, if you check your view and your mirrors it will be like any other SUV.

I figured this was my one chance to date the ugly chick!

I have never been happier. Also, I wanted to chime in on some points that I read in other threads: The cockpit does seem pretty expansive ( i almost get the same feeling i had driving Humvees in the service), The sound system does rock, even with out the sub, and i think i do agree with some that the size of the mirrors compensate for tight views. That final point might explain why you get used to it pretty quickly, i think you just start using more of your mirrors.

Ugly? Have you looked at an FJ40 lately? I look at my 40 and think of all the great times my son and I have had in it, but I sure don't think it's a good looking vehicle. By comparison, the FJ Cruiser is a swan. Not to say I would buy one though...

Saku39-Congrats on your new purchase. Now go get it dirty.

Saku...congrats on your new ride. I love the new sound system in the FJC...those NXT flat-panel roofliner speakers are just too cool!! Could this be the wave of the future?? Omni-direction, full bandwidth sound, concealable, tight packaging, and theoretically durable. I spent over an hour reading up on those NXT speakers...very interesting technology!

Why wouldn't you buy an FJ Cruiser, Andy? IFS? The "image lights" on the sideview mirrors?

Dan,
Driving anything that is a little different takes some adjustment but most of us adapt very quickly no matter what it is. Remember the first time you pulled a trailer... takes some adjustment in driving, different turns, brakes applied sooner, etc. How about the first time you drove a panel van or U-Haul truck? Have to learn to use the mirrors on those too. My Taco is easy to see out the rear until I put on the shell which takes some adjustment and more mirror use. As for the FJC A-pillar; drivers will get used to it very quickly.

When I went from a small truck to the 80 it felt like I was swallowed by a whale for the first few days. Great visibility in the 80 though; like sitting high up in a greenhouse on wheels.

The rear seats in the FJC do feel like you're in a cave though. I think you'll need to get the rear DVD option for the boys. :D

It's too nice. If I wanted a car, I'd buy a car. My 17yo daughter wants one, though, so I think Toyota hit the marketing niche nail right on the head. Every 25 year old with $30k to spend on a car is going to want one.

The IFS would not bother me since I wouldnt be buying it for off-roading anyway. I have that covered.:D

Here is something to consider: New FJC $30K. 3 year old 100 Series $30k. I'd have a tough time opting for an FJC under those circumstances.

The real reason though: I'm too old, almost as old as Dan and Beo :flipoff2:

It's the miles Wulf, the miles.........:flipoff2:

sweet man. i thought they looked weird at first and wasnt sure but i saw one in person the other day and i want one. the dealer here got two in and sold them same day.

btw speaking of weird looking vehicles.. 55 series?? hehe

I did the same as you

I was on my way to Orlando for the day to go to Disney and I saw someone driving the Black Cherry FJ Cruiser and I wanted to see it in person. I looked online on the Toyota site to find out who had them in the Tampa Bay area... So I found out 2 dealers had them and I went to test drive one and see it in person. I ended up getting there and the salesman thought it was sold. Another one had the keys so we test drove it. I ended up getting back to the dealership and decided that I had to have it. I really think that the 4 hours of waiting for all the financing and crap to go through really sucks. But I love my Voodoo Blue FJ Cruiser.

i dont know about you guys, but i cant even pick my nose in this car. too much attention. mostly good.
