Saturday, November 14th I will be rebuilding my front axle at my house in Santa Clarita, NOT in Sun Valley. I will be going all out and installing new shims using Seth’s SST. I can give directions to anyone interested in hanging out or helping. Those who know they’re coming please let me know so I can have an appropriate number of drinks and snacks.

Hmm, I would love to go, but would probably be of no use since this will be two days after my nose surgery.

I mean, I could maybe go and just watch??

Don't under estimate what another pair of eyes can bring to the project Jose. I'll bet you make a contribution before you even realize it. You should go.

I have a commitment to attend a cleanup at Bickel Camp, along with the annual Board of Directors meeting there, of which I am V.P. so I will not be able to attend.

Randy, I don't remember if you got your backing plate eliminators or not. LMK

Mark,
I have decided to stick with the stock dust shields. I cleaned them and refurbished them with new paint. If they cause problems in the future then I will go with the eliminator kit at a later date.

Jose,
Feel free to come and hang out. No one is required to work. Tittus is coming over to help me. Between two pairs of hands and the FSM... what could go wrong?

I will see how I feel. I may look like I got punched by Brock Lesnar, but maybe I'll be okay. We'll see.

I have a friend from work and Tittus coming over so far. We will be starting at 10am.

Is that thing going to be ready for Zion ?
I may show up if I dont have to work..

Frank, let me know if you go maybe I can hitch a ride with you since I don't feel much like driving right now. It'd be cool to hang out at least.

To finish the truck by Zion the following things would have to happen:

Saturday:
Rebuild front axle and transport to my Dad’s shop.

Sunday:
Set rear axle pinion angle and weld perches.
Weld front upper ford shock towers in place.
Weld rear axle lower shock mounts.
Install rear disk caliper breaks and adapter plate
Install extended brake lines and bleed brakes with power bleeder.

Finishing all the above would allow me to order shocks and resize/rebuild drive shafts over a week. I can do that.

The three things I do not feel comfortable doing alone:
1. Ford shock tower placement.
2. Setting rear pinion angle
3. Measuring new driveshaft lengths.

If I can get assistance with those three things Sunday and complete them then I might actually finish before Zion and I would beat my original goal posted in the SOA Christmas Break thread.

So my question is: Who knows how to do that and who wants to help me Sunday?

I can tell yah that Peter could help with the shock towers placement. He's done it before but I know he's busy with work/school/family.. You might want to drop him a line.

Drive shaft lenghts when I did my conversion I measured from flange to flange and the shop knew what to do from there on....

Rear Pinion Angle.... Dont know how to do that....

Axle rebuild complete due to a bunch of great helpful hands and knowledge. Dave West and I will be at my Dad's shop Sunday at 10am to put the axle under the truck, weld the rear axle perches, and weld the front upper shock mounts. Everyone is welcome to stop by.

That was my 3rd axle rebuild and by faaaaaaar the most entertaining............EVER !!!

HA !!!!

And I got pictures!

Pics from Saturday. Randy's FA rebuild

I got pictures! All in good fun, Randy! :flipoff2:

First pic:What's Randy so happy about? Maybe it's that he can now go backwards, while going forward! (Notice knuckle orientation). Front of axle is to Randy's left side. Or was it the other way around? I don't even know at this point!

Second pic: Weld looks good.

Third Pic: Ummm

Fourth Pic: DOH! Better here than on the trail, eh? btw, I saw those 6 shooters on clearance at TG: Trail-Gear High Steer Crossover Steering

Who welded those on? Probably need to crank that welder up to get a good weld to that cast knuckle, or pre heat the cast before welding.
BTW I fixed your link, I wouldn't buy parts from Frailgear. That company sucks a fat one IMO.

Frailgear. Haha, I've had O.K. luck with them, but then again, I've only ordered the heavy-duty knuckle housing felt protectors.

What sucks about them? Just wondering if you've heard or used some stuff that was..."frail" ?

Thanks

Its a long story but they did some questestionable stuff to some other mfgs. You can do a search and read some more on Marlin Crawler or maybe Pirate but this is another topic.
