SUNDAY. Oct 18th, 2009 - Electric Tech Day - Location TBD

SUNDAY. Oct 18th, 2009 - Electric Tech Day - Location Mclean, VA (see below)

Start time: 10AM till 3 or 4pm.
9AM at Mclean Family Restaurant if you want breakfast

Cost: $free for members, $15 non-members (You can join on the spot by paying the yearly dues and attend for free). [STRIKE]Food and drinks will be provided by CLCC.[/STRIKE] (We will meet for breakfast at 9am instead since there are too few RSVPs.)

This is a general electrical tech day. It will cover basics on your vehicle related electrical... how it works and how to modify safely. We will cover relays, charging system, why we use fuses (fires), trouble shooting, repairs, etc...

Ed likes to run this as an open forum so bring your questions and projects. During the day, we will look at and have the opportunity to work on various projects.

We are planing on showing an fj40 headlight relay installation (this will bypass the original (old) wiring and give brighter headlights.) Same setup can be done for the horns.

Please let us know if you are interested in participating so we can get a head count. If you have never been to this tech day, it is worth going out of your way for... If you already have, bring your project and participate. Projects can be non cruiser based as well as long as it deals with electricity.

Update:

WE JUST CHANGED THE DATE TO SUNDAY THE 18TH DUE TO CONFLICT WITH ED.

Since we have not had much response, we will have the tech day at StaleAle's house in Mclean. Call him at 703 963-7070 on cell for address/ directions. He has a carport so since it might rain, it will still allow us to work on trucks.

We will meet at the Mclean Family Restaurant (Mediterranean/ diner style) at 9AM for breakfast before the tech day. If you can't attend tech day, please free to meet us for breakfast. Let us know though so we can reserve a table.

OK, spoke to Ed. We will start at 10am. He will try to get a classroom at Lorton like last time so location for now is still TBD. If anyone is interested in hosting it as a backup, please let us know.

Please let me know if you can make it.

thanks.

Anyone interested in meeting for breakfast before the Tech Day?

The club needs to have more social activites or we will continue to drift apart. Therefore, Ed and I want to know if anyone is interested in meeting us for breakfast on Saturday morning (10/17) before the Tech Day?

We'll probably pick a centrally located restaurant like Bob Evans off I-66 and Rt 123, or possibly something closer to the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center.

Please reply to this thread if you are interested in joining us!

Hope to see you all there, even if you can't make the Tech Day

Jon

Great idea. I am up fort it!

Information on Tech day

Updated first post with info....

That's Great!

Sam - Glad you can join us. I'll be talking to Ed tomorrow night and we'll try to finalize the location. The forecast calls for rain and we probably need a covered area to dig around under the hood, which is why this is still up in the air. We'll let you know. Do you want us to email you or just PM?

Big change!!!

We are moving the Tech day to Sunday due to a conflict with ED's schedule. Same times... except SUNDAY>

9am meet for breakfast
10am start tech day

sweeet Sunday is better for me, i'll be ale to stay for the entire Electron Tech.. Since we're gonna be covering relays what parts will I need to get beffoore sunday to have my lights and horns run off of said relays. TIA

Sam the DMH

shoot a PM to ED. he might have some spare.

Thanks to Ed for another great tech day!!

We finished up the relay set up for my headlights (now MUCH brighter). Ed did a great job explaining the details of this circuit and making sure we all understood.

Then, we moved on to checking out StaleAle's new (used) winch trying to figure out what was up with it. The electrical components we found to be operating properly. This might be a good candidate for a winch rebuild class...
