Okay! You are on if you are serious. Perhaps we can have a drone convoy if that works for Rory (@RocketCityCrzrs)? Is anyone interested in that?

Maybe Ian (@RevISK) can join and he can tell me how to point my drone for the best cinematography. Maybe he can also help me adjust my whitepoint. I just know that is a thing and I have no idea how to work it properly. I am an expert at making the image blurry.
Hello Mike, sorry for being late to the party, we would be down for this run too and am happy to help out. Shervin and I will bring the 60 and 75.

Awesome! I’ll add you both to the run! So far it’s the three of us with Richard driving my Cruiser.

FYI, I also plan to be flying the drone in the area on Saturday if you or anyone else would like to join. I would like to get enough footage to create a few calendars and perhaps a few prints for the store.

Love it, we are bringing the 360 camera and our editing laptop so happy to support and share any footage and resources.

Awesome! I will also have my PC with me to download clips and clear space on the drone. If I can fit it into the budget I may have a Mavic 4 Pro with me, otherwise I’ll bring the standard 3 and an Air. I will also have a Spark handy if anyone wants to learn how to fly.

Black Bear is fairly wide open so I might send the drone out on autopilot Wednesday to track our vehicles. We will see how brave I am. I am pretty good at crashing drones that are in autopilot. Ha.

Just be aware in black bear there are those two old cables crossing just above the waterfall. Not being a drone guy yet, I’m not sure how good the obstacle avoidance works with single cables.

You read my mind. One of my drones is pretty good with avoiding power lines, and that is the Mavic 3. The Spark is called “Sparky” for a reason, and it tends to aim right for power lines, or fly directly into the mountain trying to avoid them.

Camp fires banned this year?

Camp fires banned this year?

There are currently no fire restrictions for 3 of the 4 counties that span Lake City, Ouray, Telluride and Silverton. Hinsdale County has state 1 restrictions from what I understand.

The Ouray County website says that they are in stage 1 but that info is almost a year old and the fire watch service and west slope fire states otherwise.

Update: this is the USFS map that I was trying to post before. Experience - https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/d56930dd569349f7928b4c95ae4e34b2

Don’t forget in addition to county fire restrictions you have to look at Forest Service Ranger District restrictions for the area you’ll be in, as well as any state restrictions (less common).

This!!! We were visited by a ranger on Memorial Day weekend. Didn't give us a ticket because of the confusion between forest service bans and county bans. Got lucky since we were in a county without a ban, but the forest service did have a ban

The ArcGIS link above is the USFS map, which I believe can also be accessed at this site. I may need a lesson with how to read fire restrictions as I don’t se any listed by the USFS?

I guess the KOA will have a posting?

I realize now that my previous post converted into a webpage preview that I was only looking at Pike National Forest. How confusing.

As of 5/22 there is a stage 1 restriction in the San Juan national forest
