For what it's worth we camped in the Salida Ranger District of the San Isabel NF a couple weekends ago. We were also within Chaffee County. Neither jurisdiction had fire restrictions and there aren't any statewide. It's going to be a matter of localized rainfall this summer I think.

Currently Ouray County has a burn ban on red flag days and fire weather watch days. Hinsdale County has a Stage 1 burn ban in the southern part of the county only. San Miguel only has a ban on privately owned land, but not public land. San Juan County appears not to have a ban, although sometimes these rural county websites aren't updated or the info is buried.

GMUG NF (Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison) doesn't appear to have a ban. San Juan National Forest DOES have a Stage 1 burn ban, meaning no fires unless the fire is in a permanent metal or concrete fire pit, fueled by liquid or gas that can be turned off (cook stoves or portable fire pits), or a fully enclosed stove (for hot tents). So if you were theoretically camping on NF land outside of Silverton, which lies within both San Juan County and the San Juan National Forest, you could not have an open fire except as described above - for a given location any burn ban from any jurisdiction overrides all jurisdictions that don't have a burn ban. In this example - camping on NF land outside of Silverton - the NF burn ban is enough to override the lack of burn ban from the county.

Please y'all don't come to Colorado and set the state on fire. It's going to be a tense year with a very high risk of a massive fire due to the lack of moisture accumulated this past winter. These conditions will change before August, so it's good to keep apprised of the situation. Typically the KOA will be good to go - permanent metal fire rings on private property - but I know I'll be checking before I head to Ouray, not just for the KOA but also because we camp on the way to and from.
I found it interesting to read how the different authorities/areas interact…or don’t.

Being from Indiana one of the most enjoyable things about going west is escaping the humidity, but last year after 10 days of breathing forest fire (and diesel) smoke Mattiv and I were so happy to feel the humidity when we camped in Great Sand Dunes NP on the way east. I never thought I’d welcome humidity.

I’m not very good at following rules but will not have a problem not lighting a fire out there.

Correct, but always pet the sweaty things.
Went looking for the “I don’t believe you” meme but found this instead, from the same great philosopher

If any of you clowns come to SoAz by all means please hug the independent green poles. But Az almost always has fire bans

I won’t lie, I miss the humidity back in Ohio sometimes! And the big deciduous trees & big rivers. The stuff they call a “river” out here are what they’d call a “creek” back there.

You miss the humidity?! I can't wait to get out of this humidity!! ;)

The grass is always greener as they say! I'd probably hate the humidity after a few days, but it sure looks appealing sometimes after living in Colorado for 20+ years.

I'll trade.

I'll trade.
Ok, I'll admit defeat on this one! The humidity sounds nice from where I sit, but it probably isn't pleasant to live with. I fold.

You live in the place where humidity thinks it's humid.
Exactly. We even make t-shirts and stickers celebrating it.

Again not in SoAz, we don't have grass, and we don't have humidity

I’ve lived in 2 places…H-town and Nola (what the hell is wrong with me??)
The rest of the planet is not humid.
For real. I don't know why I still live here....

Sorry to derail the conversation with my humidity rant. Back to wishing I was in the mountains again and getting this truck ready.

Nothing Like Beach living LOVE it 😍

Zero humidity average temperature 65* year around

Now I can make the drive in new, comfy seats, and actually see what’s behind me.
