Sandblaster with moisture

I am having a problem the used blasting cabnet that I picked up. It a HF unit that I picked up for $80.

I then picked up some crushed glass for media.

It was working okay then it would clog up and hardly work. I could see moisture coming out of the gun. So I went to Lowes and picked up a water trap. Its still not doing the trick and I find that I still have moisture in the line.

Any suggestions?

Make sure you have the trap installed correctly , but most likley the trap / filter is too small for the demand of the blaster.

You can do a great deal to improve your moisture problems by running water traps with black iron pipe. This company sells some kits for doing so....but just look at their diagrams and use them to design your own with parts from Home Depot, etc.

i had a real problem with the 150.00 unit clogging up and leaking all over the place. so i got some weather stripping around the door and then made hole to the out side with 3 or 4 inch pvc pipe to properly vent the box seemed help with the clogging. i also had 2 water traps on it before it hit the gun, i think having the light on helped as well. my biggest prob was that this was in southern missouri and i set it up in july - alittle to humid....

Crushed glass?

You learn something new everyday. I am familiar with Glass Beads. The round shape aids in the fluidization of the media making it easier to move it up the hose.
extreme angular media can create problems. with fluidization and wedging.
Good Luck. perhaps a media change would help.
copper slag, knickle slag, (Black Beauty) etc.

I had to use a dessicant dryer to solve the same problem on my HF pressure blaster. The water trap was not enough.

I actually have a larger version with removable cartridges of desiccant that I found on e-bay for a screaming deal but the small ones will work also.

What compressor are you using? I ended up running copper lines for my shop and was able to place my sandblasting cabinet and where I paint at the end of the line. I rarely have to use the dryer anymore because the copper cools the air enough that the moisture condenses by that point. My lines are set on an incline so the water runs to a trap below all of the air inlets on my line where I can drain it.

you might also want to blow out your hoses, if they have water in them. as it can get trapped in them. also if you sand is already wet, you will have to dry it out before using it, PITA.
