I am not sure. I think it is Alamo City Land Cruisers. There is a facebook link floating around here somewhere but I am personally not a facebook user myself so I couldn't tell you.

Sorry for my late response, I am currently out of town this week on a work trip.

Kim and Rick are good people and did good work on my cruiser. It wasn't very clear or maybe I missed it, did they do the tune up itself? How did that come out?

I don't have any experience with Land Cruiser Specialist. There is not much to choose from in San Antonio area and you may have better luck on the facebook group if you are into facebook.

Picked up my LC this morning at Alamo Auto Doctors. I have to say it was like a whole new vehicle. Right off the start the rough idle at stop lights I was experiencing was way better to almost non existent. I also had faster acceleration and the vehicle just felt like it had more power. I had a 40 mile ride home and she just felt great. I missed her so much the 48 hours she was gone.

Glad to hear you were happy with the work. I have an 80 and a 3rd gen 4Runner they work on if I don't have the time or know how. First thing Kim told me was that "we aren't the cheapest but will do it right and treat your vehicle as if it were our own." After having had a number of bad experiences with other shops in the area and having to have work redone I am happy to say (for me) they are well worth it. Only other person in town I have met who I trust to be
competent is Jason G at Universal Toyota...but there you pay the stealership price, which is higher than Ricks work.

I added some pics, give me a honk if you see me around town! There are monthly ACLC meetings on Sat mornings but I have only ever made it to one because of kid activities at the same time. The group does other activities from time to time as some folks organize trips and such.

Cheers!

senorx: Glad to learn that the tune-up went well. I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone to Rick's shop for motor work. Just gotta bring the checkbook. :)

I sure will. That's a sweet rig you got there! Where were the pics taken? Any nice trails close to town?

3rd gen pic is up in Mason, TX (north of Fredericksburg), 80 pic is Hidden Fall Adventure Park in Marble Falls, TX

For those of you that need any paint work (small or big), I just wanted to share my recent experience with Auto Masters Collision off broadway st went really well. I highly recommend them if you need any body work done. The owner walked me through the shop and showed me various jobs they do, some of which is really major.

They removed a couple of minor paint bubbles (thankfully the metal was still good) and resprayed the small area afterwards. Dropped my cruiser at 8am and picked it up at 5pm on the same day. Cost me $125.

I will be using them when I get my new windshield frame that is en route from Japan to get that painted.

New to SA from AZ. Just wanted to intro myself and say thanks for all the info about Alamo Doctors. Just trying to meet some fellow LC fans here in TX.

Welcome to San Antonio. If you have facebook (which I don't) then you can find out about the meetup which is every first Saturday of the month at Los Balitos Taco shop.

Someone here that has facebook can probably point you to the group page.

Alamo Doctors is the best shop option out there for older land cruisers in San Antonio (IMO). Rick just recently converted my A/C system to R134 without any issues at all and he doesn't seem afraid to touch my FJ73 like most shops would be in town.

Hit me up and we can organize a meetup. Always good to find another LC enthusiast in town!

Welcome to town. There is a group that does breakfast the first Saturdays of October. I went in July. I plan to go in October. Ill shoot you some details when I find them. I don't do Facebook but apparently they have a page.

So I called Foreign Affair (Bob) and he said he can look at my cruiser but is booked for a few weeks so I asked him to go ahead and put me down. I will report back on my experience with him. He does not seem to enjoy talking on the phone much and likes to get to the point which I have no problem with.

I had a very different experience with Bob. Today he was very personable and we couldn't get off the phone talking about Land Rovers, Datsuns, and MGs. He mentioned my diagnosis may be off and the actual fix for my 100 could be cheaper ... I've never got that from a mechanic, ever.

That is great that your experience with Bob was better. He wasn’t rude to me but really short and to the point. Guess you got him on a laid back day. :)

I never did end up using him. If I must use a mechanic then I use Alamo Auto Doctors but I am getter better now about doing most stuff myself with the help of an awesome local LC group.

I finally had a chance to get the LC over to Alamo Doctors and met Kim/Rick. Two great people and although it was a simple check-up, I'll certainly me returning. Thanks for the info everyone!

Now I need to join the ACLC group! Finding it much harder to off-road here in TX than in AZ with all the private land. :censor:

I am glad your experience with them went well.

Hey all,

I'm relocating to Corpus Christi next week where I'll be using my 80 for daily driving duty (maybe some fun on the beach as well) and haven't been able to identify a LC shop in CC.

As the 2 hour trip to SA versus the almost 4 hour trip to Houston sounds preferable I wanted to check to see if there are any updates to this thread on mechanics in the area.

Thanks in advance for any help.
