Hey all, finally picked up a 470 last month and want to share it on here.
After a few months of looking around the southeast for a Non-nav GX, i was able to find this one a couple of hours away from me in AL. It’s a 2005 Sport Package in Ash Blue, Non Nav with the tan interior. It looked nice in the pictures, but had an airbag light on, VSC TRAC, and a few more lights on. It also had a few minor electrical issues, wouldnt keep memory settings, etc. It had 180,000 on the clock with a timing belt change at 120,000. PO had priced it with these issues in mind, saying he’d had it with a mechanic and they couldnt find what was wrong.
After bringing it home, I checked on here for a possible fix, and found that the ECU B fuse had blown and was a likely culprit. Replaced the fuse and most of the lights went away! Door locks began working again, remote started working, mirrors and windows started working too. All lights except TPMS and KDSS went away.
Took it to a shop and had it looked over for service. Shop came back and told me that it needed a new water pump, so they went in and did timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, and all new fluids. When I got the truck back from the shop, it rode like a wagon. It had driven fine before taking it in, but after going to the shop both of my rear air springs had gone flat. After trying to explain that the truck hadn’t come in that way, I realized I needed to bite the bullet and have another shop do a coil conversion, since I needed the truck running well ASAP for a cross country move. Once the coils went on, it rode like new again. Also took it in to have a new set of Hankook Dynapro AT2’s put on. They were able to install a new tire on the spare location as well, which took care of the TPMS light.
These tires have been great. They’re super smooth on the highway, dead quiet, and have handled the snow/ice in CO easily. Highly recommend.
The main reason for finding a non nav GX was to have the option to swap out head units. Right before I moved, I was able to install a Joying 9in android head unit with wireless carplay, along with a backup camera and OBD2 module to read codes through torque. It’s worked out great so far, and is so much better than a factory navigation system.
I’ve also done a few other small things. I’ve installed a rear door strut to keep it open automatically, bought a few eBay parts, and installed Weathertech mats all around.
It’s been a great rig so far and i’m looking forward to keeping it for a long time to come.
I’ve gotta sort out the KDSS system next. I’ve read on here about the possibility of a corroded harness, if anyone has any help on that please let me know. Hopefully will be building a sleeping platform/drawer system in the back soon as well.
