Hey all, finally picked up a 470 last month and want to share it on here.

After a few months of looking around the southeast for a Non-nav GX, i was able to find this one a couple of hours away from me in AL. It’s a 2005 Sport Package in Ash Blue, Non Nav with the tan interior. It looked nice in the pictures, but had an airbag light on, VSC TRAC, and a few more lights on. It also had a few minor electrical issues, wouldnt keep memory settings, etc. It had 180,000 on the clock with a timing belt change at 120,000. PO had priced it with these issues in mind, saying he’d had it with a mechanic and they couldnt find what was wrong.

After bringing it home, I checked on here for a possible fix, and found that the ECU B fuse had blown and was a likely culprit. Replaced the fuse and most of the lights went away! Door locks began working again, remote started working, mirrors and windows started working too. All lights except TPMS and KDSS went away.

Took it to a shop and had it looked over for service. Shop came back and told me that it needed a new water pump, so they went in and did timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, and all new fluids. When I got the truck back from the shop, it rode like a wagon. It had driven fine before taking it in, but after going to the shop both of my rear air springs had gone flat. After trying to explain that the truck hadn’t come in that way, I realized I needed to bite the bullet and have another shop do a coil conversion, since I needed the truck running well ASAP for a cross country move. Once the coils went on, it rode like new again. Also took it in to have a new set of Hankook Dynapro AT2’s put on. They were able to install a new tire on the spare location as well, which took care of the TPMS light.

These tires have been great. They’re super smooth on the highway, dead quiet, and have handled the snow/ice in CO easily. Highly recommend.

The main reason for finding a non nav GX was to have the option to swap out head units. Right before I moved, I was able to install a Joying 9in android head unit with wireless carplay, along with a backup camera and OBD2 module to read codes through torque. It’s worked out great so far, and is so much better than a factory navigation system.

I’ve also done a few other small things. I’ve installed a rear door strut to keep it open automatically, bought a few eBay parts, and installed Weathertech mats all around.

It’s been a great rig so far and i’m looking forward to keeping it for a long time to come.

I’ve gotta sort out the KDSS system next. I’ve read on here about the possibility of a corroded harness, if anyone has any help on that please let me know. Hopefully will be building a sleeping platform/drawer system in the back soon as well.

Looks very clean in mostly stock form. Seems like you got a great deal and figured out most of the lights on a blow fuse. Good luck figuring out the issue with KDSS. I'm assuming you fixeds the TPMS light with the new tires and maybe new sensors.

Did you also flush the transmission fluid? That one is needed every 100K or so.

I think there's a sequence to revive the rear airbags that your shop might have missed, but you already converted to coils. What coils did you go with?

Nice looking Sport! We could be twins. Same color inside and out, no nav and southern. I have just over 200k on mine. Good luck on the KDSS issue, I have not had an issue.

Sweet new ride! Question about the joying: can you turn on the backup camera at will? Or only when when you shift into reverse?

Havent had a chance to knock that out yet, I know the 05 isn’t really designed to be serviced. Would I just need to drop the pan to empty and refill it?

Thanks!

I had to wire up a trigger wire to get it to come on in reverse. I know there is an option to wire in a front camera so I assume there’s a setting in there to manually control a camera.

I have a 2003 and mine has a dipstick, but later years are sealed. There's a specific procedure to change the transmission fluid, but I'm not super familiar with it. I had a shop change mine back in 2017.

Nice looking rig. You mentioned he factored in the electrical problems and timing belt into the pricing. How much was he selling it for in that condition?

Nice rig man! Non-nav KDSS is a rare bird.

I had a KDSS light. My harness was corroded badly. You can check out my photos in my truck's thread. I would start by removing the small KDSS cover and seeing what everything looks like in there.

Popped off the cover and things look pretty crusty in there. What did you order to replace what’s in there? I’d rather try this first before taking it into the dealership.

I ordered a complete KDSS solenoid housing or section from Benzeen auto parts, it was used. I replaced that plastic piece with the copper windings on it. Then rebuilt my connector. The hardest part was finding that part. The repair itself was rather quick and easy. It made a huge difference in handling after the fact.

Benzeen had it listed under 974661... but I don't see anything like it there currently.
