Guys -

Awhile back I had inquired to Christo as to whether I could buy one of the racks he imports from South Africa and use it on both the 80 and the 100, since I didn't want to have to buy two racks. I liked the design of this rack for many reasons, not the least of which was the modularity and ease of being able to mount a rooftop tent (side rails simply unbolt, leaving a contiguous flat surface).

Anyway, we took some measurements and felt that one rack would work on both, but which one? The 80 rack (1.3 meters wide) is just a few inches wider than the 100 rack (1.25 meters). But we did know that the half length 80 rack was the same width as the 100 rack, so why wouldn't it work? Plus, I like a narrower rack anyway, that doesn't stick out beyond the edge of the roof line.

At the same time, I learned that one of the NorCal 80s locals, Derek Flint, had ordered an 80 rack from Christo, but the manufacturer had put a 100 rack in the box! Christo let me know and he made me a deal that I could have the 100 rack minus shipping, since he'd have to pay to ship it back anyway if Derek F. simply returned it. He also cut me a deal on a complete set of mounting hardware for an 80. Now we had the goods, just had to throw it up on both trucks and see how it all fit. Turns out it fits superbly! Andy Pollock (CruiserDrew) came by this afternoon and helped me set up both trucks. Here are a couple pics I snapped off. Christo, if you're reading this, I'm zipping up many more hi-res pics to send off to you, as I promised to Ben when I ordered all this stuff. The 100 pics will be posted in the 100 section under a similarly-titled thread.

I got to see this rack up close and personal today, and it is excellent in every way. It's a huge bonus to be able to move expensive items between cruisers and we first put it on Derek's 100, and then changed the mounting feet and put it on the 80. The fit is perfect on both vehicles even though the mounting methods are completely different. The 80 series feet even look to have enough adjustment to fit on a 60, though we ran out of time to try that. Remember that this was the 100 series rack with 80 series feet. I understand from Derek that the 80 rack is slightly wider, so that might fit even better on a 60. Overall, I was very impressed with the fit, finish and mounting adjustments of this rack. Highly reccomended.

Excellent now all I need to do is purchase a 100. :D
