Anyone used these to replace any heater hoses other than the PHH? I've got a leaky hose and my OCD (that's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for those keeping score on the acronym front:D) is kicking in. I'm thinking of doing the whole engine w/ silicone in the hopes that I never have to do them again, ever. However, since I'm still learning this whole wrenching thing as I go, I have no idea what's really involved here (although IdahoDoug's old thread about redoing all of his was revelatory). Will simple flexible hose work, or do I have to go with preformed pieces?

I used the Pep Boys brand hose. I am a bit concerned because it is an off the shelf brand, but I am keeping an eye on it. But then a 12 gauge shotgun shell worked for 6 months to plug the engine block where the pesky hose is. Maybe if remington made hose that would be cool?

The reason I offer the PHH in Silicone, is that you want it to last and not have to touch it to re-tighten the clamps. Once you do it, you understand why you don't want to do it again. As long as you torque them down to 45lbs, they are an install and forget item.

Most generic heater hose, while easy to keep an eye on, isn't rated at what crusiers run at... see link:

I would hate to see what the specs on the cheaper versions they mention are.

Silicone far exceeds anything cruisers will experience and Gates will handle most conditions.

For the FHH (Firewall heater hoses), they are easy to check, easy to maintain... in my opinion, Silicone & Constant Torque clamps would only be necessary if you wanted it to look hi-tech (bling) or you didn't want to mess with it ever again...

Actually, the PHH is the only one I'm not worried about at the moment as it was just changed at the stealership in January and still under warranty. I'm looking more at other hoses, particular the one that runs along the PS top front by the head. It's getting the paper towel test today. And, yes, I hope to never have to do it again. I was just wondering if any one had experience/advice doing other hoses.

I have replaced heater hoses on previous vehicles with some preformed Samco silicone pieces. It is not difficult... Make sure you get the proper size, though. Too small can be tough to slip over connections, too large will seeeeeeep.
