I was hoping someone could toss out an opinion on this model Saginaw box and what they think the OEM application was. Looks different than most others I have seen. Seems kinda short and fat.

That's a Saginaw manual steering gear box from practically everything GM made before power steering became standard equipment on practically everything.

Ahoy mate, here comes another boat anchor....

I’ve been trying to ID the box on mine and came across this thread. This one is shot so I’m trying to find a replacement of the same build. Would you agree that this one is also a 525 manual?

@duckhuntjunkie
LOL, yes looks the same to me. My truck came without an engine so I have never been able to try out the feel of this box but it's still manual. I still have mine on the truck. Just waiting to figure out what box to go with. Pribably another Scout unit

eventually I’ll make the conversion to a power steering box. Right now, though, I’m just trying to make it road-worthy and replace all of the steering components. So swapping out a shot 525 for a new 525 is fine with me.The steering is so loose right now that I have a full 1/3 turn on the wheel at 25 mph before I change any direction of the tires.

If you cant locate one locally I can pull mine off for you. If interested PM me.

Like Dukes of Hazzard with the sloppy wheel... I too have a manual Saginaw box but I attributed worn steering joints with my wheel play... turns out it was the joint. Also thinking about a future PS setup but for now just getting back together is the goal.
