Saw this for sale close to where I live. Thought it was pretty interesting, as I'd never heard of this platform having the 2.7 Tacoma/4Runner motor.

Anyone ever driven one of these with this motor? Wonder if there is really any fuel savings compared to the 4.7? I think if I was going to go for a 120 series import I'd go for the D4D 3.0.....

IGR is bad enough. This is painfully slow for US highway. Might be OK in place like Japan where mostly low speed and lots of city driving.

The 4 banger and D4D both are underpowered for US highways. That said...go read some aussie input and issues on these on pradopoint and the like. There is a reason they all want the 4.7. Chasing mpg in a GX? Go get a DD and enjoy the 4.7 in all it's giant fat inefficient glory. You would be better off buying a $2000 aux tank and spending more money on gas and just get the range.

The V6 has heaps of power. Only slightly less than the 4.7 and heaps lighter due to alloy block. They are tough as nails too with a timing chain and go forever. The early D4D's had major problems with injectors failing and grenading motors but are otherwise good.
The 2.7 on the other hand... Gutless. My work ute has one and it's painful to drive.

I think the D4D with the right maintenance and some tuning would be pretty sweet; they have some pretty obscene torque potential. You're right though, the 3RZFE would be slow as hell!

I find it funny that you guys say the V6 is underpowered when the GR120s can cruise at over 90mph comfortably.

EDIT: I stand corrected, the pictures show a 3RZ. I would've bet the 120s already had the 2TR. In any case, both would be indeed underpowered and only be fit for somewhere with flat terrain and and slow speed driving.

Yeah, I was looking at what he posted, not what could be lol. I fat fingered the 6. Will fix.

Also, can't import that to the US. *sidenote!*
