I placed a big order this week for all the parts to refurbish my front and rear sway bars. But on the passenger's front sway bar I discovered a nasty surprise. Where the sway bar mounts to the chassis is almost completely rusted off.

How do I remedy this situation? Or at least prevent the sway bar from moving around and clunking. There is no rust on the driver's side sway bar.

Common issue on rusty 100s. To properly get it fixed your going to need to get a new plate welded in. With the torsion bar removed it should be a fairly easy job for any welder. Honestly that's the way you need to go, I don't recommend you running it as-is, as it can get worse. Once the new plate is on I would just coat it with the rust Treatment of your liking and paint/coating. I personally use Por15 products on undercarriage parts ,but it's pricey.

That part gets rusted out so quickly because the AC drain is right above it, causing water to pool on that mount. Once fixed, you might want to extend/rerouted that drain to drip somewhere else.

Eeeeeeeeeewwwwwww! Makes me feel a lot better about mine. I actually cursed out loud when I first noticed it. I have a good amount of rust on the frame and the FSB bracket and bolts were completely rusted through. Good luck with the repair.

Update - brought the cruiser to Auto Rust Technicians down in Cranston, RI

For 4 hours labor @ 110/hr they cut out all the rust and welded in a new bracket
