Does rustproofing the underbody and the floor (under the carpet, they dynamat) of a 60 dimish the resale value to a collector?

I have a special rig that I do not want to screw up... Only about 38K original miles, and absolutely pristine, but I brought the truck to Ohio and salt is friggin everywhere!

How can I protect my truck AND preserve it's integrity?

What would a collector do? (AND DON'T SAY NEVER DRIVE IT IN THE WINTER!... I KNOW THAT ALREADY!... but the snow beckons... must ... drive... the.... cruiser...)

IMO it would not effect the value. All of the things you are thinking of doing would preserve or improve the truck rather than detract from it. I think the cruiser buyer is more into the durability and reliability. As long as you do it right I would say no worries.

I know you said don't say it - BUT - if you have a pristine 60 w/ 38k miles I WOULD NOT DRIVE IT IN SALT - PERIOD.

If you have to drive it in salt I would have the underbody stripped and painted with POR15, RustBullet, or similar.

Is Z-BART still in business? They used to drill holes and rustproof in every nick and cranny.

Yah, restored a 40 that had this treatment. Nothing better than welding on that sumbitch with hot tar dripping down on you. Oh yeah. it had rust.

Thanks for the thoughts... eventhough - I have a DD but like to drive the truck when I can. I probably average 5-6 times a winter in the truck... That means short haul, no offroad. I like to drive it in the snow BEFORE the salt trucks have a chance to get out there and mess up my playground!

I have read every post on this forum on rust protection, I just did not know if it would de-value the rig. Think of a 65 Thunderbird with 38K original miles... It would probably be worth more than the identical cal that had been molested by rustproofing, dynamat, all the things I want to do.

These issues torment me - that is why I it looks like I should get another cruiser that I can rustproof, drop the H55 into, dynamat until I think I am deaf, and eventually go turbo diesel and all the other crazy stuff AND DRIVE IT WHENEVER, WHEREVER I WANT!

Fluid Film

Jeff,
Spray Fluid Film on the underside that pretty truck. That is what I do to my 60 and it does see some salt in the winter.
I just sprayed it with an old Wagner Home gun after I put some POR 15 on the rear frame rails.
