Living in MN does a number on bodies and frames but I'm happy to have found my 2000 LC with no cancer at all. It has 150k miles and I'm hoping to have 150 more in her.
Is anyone familiar with underbody rust prevention products and how effective they are? Ziebart will power wash and spray the underbody with a type of rust prevention coating for $249 or the underbody and door jams, doors, tailgate, areas under the hood , etc for $449.
Is it worth it and does it work?

You'll get lots of ideas if you run a search on MUD with the term "rust prevention". From the experience of a family member, I know that the quality of the work is really important. So if you find a material you like, make sure you get an experienced and conscientious applicator.

And it looks like this topic was just covered. Sorry for asking the same question. Hovever, Ziebart anyone?

Thanks Sandroad. The quality of the work is always important to me as well especially with something irreversible as rust. This application is primarily what they do so I hope the quality is there but wish I could be right by his side while it's done.

I don't know much about Ziebart, but I used Fluid Film under my old 80 Series, and it lasted for several years. An easy and relatively inexpensive DIY option. Many on here have used it and recommend it.

Any idea if the FF could be used at a later date on top of a different product? My thought is it would work to get areas where another product has worn away therefore protecting the bare metal. I imagine these products are pretty tough since they are exposed to all types of on road and off road grime. Hopefully they wouldn't react negatively to each other.

If you can power wash the undercarriage before applying the fluid film, you'll have a great undercoating. Fluid film just works. I applied some to a padlock that's exposed year round at our beach cabin, and six years later there's zero rust on the lock (previous locks never lasted more than a couple of years). Amazing stuff.

You can coat over anything with fluid film.
Also doesn't harm wiring, tubing, plastics or anything else.

Does have a funky smell that will go away.

Good luck

You all convinced me, I think I'll save some money and go with Fluid Film instead. Thanks for the advice.

Ziebart is pretty proven, but costs more.

I just sprayed 2 cans of Fluid Film under mine yesterday. Super easy. As for panel cavities, pick up an attachment for the spray can that be snaked into small areas and spray 360 degrees.
