Selling the FJ60 I bought only two months ago. I bought it on a whim cause it was a good deal and I thought my daughter would drive it. I was wrong. To complicate matters I just bought a BJ70 so I need to thin out the collection- my 78 FJ40 is also gonna be for sale. Here's the Mud link to the 60 that originally attracted my attention: https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-trailers-sale-wanted/215913-very-nice-84-fj60-sale-va.html. After looking at the blurb I found myself camping and wheeling with the owner at Rausch Creek in April. Over a few beers the thoughts of owning a rust free 60 danced in my head.......the rest is history. I'm easy.
There's not a whole lot to say about the 60 other than what Matt listed in his original blurb. The truck is clean- the paint is actually pretty nice, a scratch here or there but overall a very good looking truck. No dents that I know of. The window tinting was done professionally and looks good. The brown interior is excellent- whoever replaced the original carpet took their time and did a nice job. There is a very slight tear in the usual spot on the outside of the driver seat bottom. Dashboard is nice and all gauges work except for the gas gauge (More later on that). Console is nice.
I don't see any rust anywhere on the truck- the frame looks good, too. Bumpers are original and in nice. It has the non-USA cool mirrors, too, and they're painted green like the rest of the truck. Glass and windshield is fine, no problems there. This is a solid truck, it doesn't rattle and there is just about no wind noise. I got it inspected here in PA when I bought it and it sports a sticker good till April 2009. Mileage is in the area of 110,000, I don't know the exact figure without going out to look. A piece or two of the chrome drip rail molding is absent but I have a spare set from another 60 that I could give with the truck. The original owners manual is in the glove compartment.
Tires are 30 x 10.50 Goodrich all terrains with about 75% tread. The spare is brand new and still has the nibs on it. Wheels are the stock Toyota chromies. Brakes work great, steering is excellent and the truck goes down the road just fine, no shakes or shimmies. Wipers work on all settings, all lights work including the Hellas mounted up front, and the heater works fine. The AC blows cold. This truck did not originally have AC and the area of the firewall where the AC lines come through was not as neatly done as I would like to see. The turn signal switch doesn't always cancel after turning, and I haven't looked at that. Other than those items I don't see a flaw in the vehicle.
The engine is strong the compression readings are up in the 140-145 PSI range across all cylinders. The previous (previous) owner had a brand new Toyota carb installed at the dealer and the trucks starts up nicely and runs well either cold or hot. Oil looks clean as does the coolant. Clutch feels very strong, and the transmission works great as does the transfer case in all modes. Tranny and transfer shift easily, too. This 60 has the original (good!!!) Aisin hubs. I haven't noticed any fluid leaks although I must qualify that statement by saying I don't keep the truck in my garage. This is an 84 FJ60 with the desirable double cardan front driveshaft.
The 60 is basically stock and unmolested, but does have a few desirable extras. Obviously from Matt's pictures in the original blurb the Hellas were added, and it has a 42 gallon Manafre gas tank. Neither Matt nor I filled the tank up- I believe if filled the gas gauge wil register. Putting the Manafre tank underneath means the spare sits neatly in the cargo area. In the cargo area is a nice steel storage box, lockable, that is easily removable. It attaches to rails on the cargo area floor. There is an excellent Pioneer CD player (supertuner) neatly mounted in the dash, and there are four speakers that soound great. The stereo plays very well and an amplifier is mounted under the driver seat where the jack used to go. The jack and tool kit are now stored in the box in the cargo area.
The doors all open and close as they should and all the locks work (with the same key I might add). The windows roll up and down as they should. Tailgate and liftgate work fine and are rust free of course. I know the rear wiper works but have never tried the rear washer or defroster. What else........exhaust is solid and tight although there is an extremely slight exhaust leak somewhere in the manifold area- not even noticeable on the road and barely noticeable when driving in town with the windows down.
I paid $4000 for the truck and would like to get that out of it- but- edit here on June 8- my 70 is coming and I have lowered the price to $3500. I feel the truck is a very very good buy otherwise I wouldn't have bought it myself. I have a clear PA title in my name. Truck is located in northeastrn PA, best way to reach me is either phone 570-668-2489 before 8PM, or email shmukter@pa.metrocast.net. I can take specific pictures if need be but be advised today is my last day off for the next five weeks- so my time will be somewhat limited. Someone will be getting a good land cruiser if they buy this one, and I'd love to sell it to someone who could come and look at it and drive it to see how good it is. Thanks, Gary S
