Looking to enter the Land Cruiser world for the first time and need assessment of the rust on some undercarriage shots. Looks pretty good to me compared to the feedback in other rust threads but wanted to confirm.

Its a 2014 LC with ~ 90K miles, one owner, North East, well serviced all its life.

That looks great.

Not bad. Make your decision on factors other than rust. Some cleanup and treatment and it’ll be fine.

5k oil changes….

That looks amazing for a vehicle in the Northeast.

per the carfax it’s been dealer serviced regularly since new. Unfortunately it’s been through a few dealers so there are no paperwork to indicate non standard maintenance.

So?

What kills these trucks is rust.

Use the vin on the Lexus website

Totally that. :wrench: And, gotta make sure the Bushings on the upper reciprocating dingel arm have been properly serviced, 'cause everyone knows how important they are for the efficient function of the turbo encabulator.:slap:
they have dingel arms in the woods ?

Not bad but as stated above, looks to be painted over in places (not factory coating)

Thanks for all the input.

I took a look at the Toyota service site and there lots of normal consumables but no mention of anything else.

There is definitely rust there, but as mentioned above spray painted black. Not a ton of rust though, so it might have been regularly coated with appropriate anti-rust products (as one should do every fall in the NE). If you live in the NE or anywhere in the rust belt, it looks like a good deal. If you live in the West or South, pass it and look for one in/from these regions.

I’ll start with don’t buy any US market Landcruiser without seeing the KDSS valve block up close.

Where will you end up with this rig? If it’s somewhere rust is inevitable, and KDSS checks out, go for it. If you live somewhere rust won’t be a concern, I’d look for a cleaner one or at least one that didn’t have the rust hidden on purpose.

For the record my concern isn’t so much the frame or parts failing, it’s having to deal with rusted bolts/ bushings/service components later down the line. Knowing you just won’t ever battle some stupid LCA bolt that is seized is worth the wait, IMO. And yes, I waited for months before finding mine.
