During negotiations with the local preowned sales manager, he mentioned this was happening and therefore couldn't work with me very much on price.

Manager indicated brokers are keeping an eye out for our vehicles and swooping in to suck them up at or above asking price. Anybody been fed that line before?

Think I got it for a fair price just not a good one!

Thoughts?

Its only worth what someone is willing to pay - if you feel comfortable then don't worry about it - you bought it anyhow.

Agreed- Would have walked away if the number wasn't right. Just curious from an integrity of manager angle.

Very happy with purchase!

Thx for commenting.

Same thing with new Range Rover. The US lease prices are heavily supported by the fact that they can ship your used lease return to Russia and sell it for basically full sticker price. Crazy oligarchs!

Huh, and I thought black, luxury SUVs were only in the domain of rappers, pimps and drug dealers. Learn something new every day. :D

Don't know about the Chinese, but Russians are still trying to be like us (Americans); the good, bad, and the ugly! ;)

I've had a broker tell me the same thing. But they lowball. It's just a value proposition and it's a tax play. They can buy the worn ones cheap and sell them at good prices in their country.

We chuckle, but their distribution networks are so unreliable, corrupt, and broken that this is a more reliable way than trying to build legitimate dealerships.

Hmm. Ok points for Sales Manager at least basing his argument on some level of fact!

X2 forum folks have confirmed.

Good to know for those who've not scored a Land Cruiser yet…

I have had for sell a Land Cruiser 100 series and a Mercedes GL450 in the last 5 years. About 3/4 of the calls were from overseas. The cruiser went to my nephew and the GL450 went to Mother Russia.

Yep. Many of the same folks have been buying tons of metal scrap and many other similar categories. I have posted several times on this, but the 200 resale market is going to and will remain absurd.

Great for owners. Finally might make me buy a brand new LC/LX as this is the rarest of times where the usual depreciation curves are not truly applicable.

I have heard the same thing from a several people I know at a Lexus dealership as far back as 2009. People come over, buy a LX570 and ship it to wherever.

Apparently its an issue for the dealerships when selling a new car. I think Toyota gets cranky when that happens.

It's actually against the Toyota dealer agreement to knowingly sell a vehicle that will be exported.

BIG NO, NO.
