Hey guys, my Cruiser seems to be starving for gas. When it's sitting idle it will run for ever, when I start rolling after 10 minutes or so it will cut off. I pop the hood and look at the side glass on the carb and it’s empty. Then I remove the input line to the fuel filter and when I do it makes a suctions sound. Then I try to start it back up it will start up just fine then run for ten minutes and stop again.

So far it has had a new fuel filter and gas pump installed.

Any suggestions???

Ran into something similar on a cj5. Check your vent line to the fuel tank and your vent for the carb bowl. Or maybe the gas cap, try running it without the gas cap on. Is there an on the frame filter? Maybe one of these. For what it is worth...... may be an angle to look at. On the jeep it was an evap line to vent/purge the fuel tank.
cheers

i had the same problem. sounds like the gas pickup srceen inside the tank is clogged.

There's a vent line from the Char. can to the gas tank; this is the major air make up to the tank. The gas cap will permit a certain amount of vacuum to form before allowing inleakage.

As stated by chambers, try running with gas cap off . . .while cap off, discon vent tube from Ch can & blow into gas tank to ensure line not clogged...

Quick fix/test for crud buildup on the pickup screen in the fuel tank:
-remove gas cap.
-pull the fuel inlet line off the fuel filter.
-blow a few puffs of shop air in the fuel line back to the tank.
- reassemble, test drive.

If problem goes away, you know it is crud buildup intank
